I'm hoping some of the software or Starry Night gurus here can help me with this little problem.

I've recently started getting an error when starting Starry Night. (Pro V5.8.2)

"An Error Occurred. Try again after throwing out your "Personal Bookmarks" file in the Preferences folder"

Starry night then quits loading.

I've deleted the personal bookmarks.bak file, rebooted and retried. Same message. I then replaced the file with one from another computer running the same version, no difference, same message.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it. I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall SN

Thanks

Sorry mate I don't have anything to say to help but I've had Starry night pro for a week now with two top nights just doing observing and wow it was great to use with the LX200....although i had to make a heavy red filter frame for the PC:P

Pitty about it's chart printing ability : (.... most of the object
outlines come out in light red, how stooopid is that!!!!

I think the support from the SN Dev team is pretty slack, I posted
this problem on the support site 2 months prior to v6 release. Now
they are offering a fix as long as you pay for the upgrade to v6,
which I think sucks.

Anyways, Paul
Do you have an earlier version on CD than v5? I'm looking for a
couple of .txt files that are meant to be in the "Extra Databases"
folder on the DVD or CD that you install from, according to the
manual. But they are not there : ( they're called... simple.txt &
NGC-IC.txt. I'm hoping I can maybe recreate part of if not all
of the NGC-IC database and have it print in a more appropriate colour.

From a visual observers point of view it's alot of eye candy and not
much use, unless you have a laptop to take onto the observing field.
Have been thinking of un-installing it and sending it off to my mother
who would prolly make better use of it. And be buggered if I'm going
to buy the upgrade just so I can print out ledgitable stars charts. I'm
back using Sky 5... much better :D

regards,CS

Rob

I've found the NGC-IC.txt file but not the other one. It's about one and a half meg though. If you have a yahoo email account I can email it to you
