Hi guys
Just having a small issue with DSS and PS (I have CS5 btw). I have been able to do a nice stacking job on my M20 pics, well I am really happy with it. DSS allow me ro save the output as a .tif which is fine, and I have worked out settings that then allow me to open the .tif file in PS to do some more fiddling with it. The issue I have is that PS will not allow me to save the file as a simple .jpg so I can upload here on IIS.
Any ideas or am I being dumb?
Malcolm
Go to Image tab then down to 'Mode' and check that it's in 16 bit/Channel mode.
See if that then allows you to convert to jpg.
To upload to IIS, use 'File' | 'Save for Web' and choose jpg and adjust 'Quality' to give < 200kb.

In later versions of P.S. you will find "save for web" as a sub heading
in "export," which as Andrew said is in the " file" tab. In earlier versions
"save for web" is directly accessed in the file tab.

Nope, cannot find an option to save for web. Export tab only has some very odd commands but the only one that is not greyed out is "Paths to Illustrator", which I followed and it allows me to save as an .ai file. Tried it all I get is a blank .ai file.
This is starting to get frustrating that what should be a simple operation is so complicated. DSS seems to creatye the .tif as an HDR file, so my version of PS elements refuses to open it as it doesn't support HDR. PS CS5 doesn't allow you to save it except as a tif (which you cannot open n other programs because of the HDR) or as a PSD (which comes up with the same HDR issue)
Surely I must be doing something wrong or do I need some other software?
I have tried what RB suggested, but I end up with a horrible green cast all over the image!!
Hmmmm.

OK
Just solved issue I think. Trick is to save it as a 16bit image in DSS!!
Thanks guys.
Malcolm
My apology Malcolm, yes the image needs to be in 16 bit from DSS first.
Been years since I used DSS and I assumed PS would convert it to 16 bit.

Thanks Andrew
What do you use instead of DSS?
Malcolm
I would still use DSS, it's just that it's been years since I imaged anything.

Andrew
You need to get out there then. If I can be imaging, any one can!!;)
Malcolm
Cheers Malcolm, I hope to start again soon, I want to get back into it because I miss the hobby.
Having a large family and balancing work too just makes it harder.
You're off to a great start though, I'm happy to see you give imaging a go.
Well done, your knowledge base is increasing well in the hobby.
