Much happier with this one. Personal best.
Big one here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M31_FSQ_fff.jpg)[4.2MB - 3002x1980]
and HD version here (http://www.astropic.net/astro/M31_FSQ_HD.jpg): [2.3MB - 1920x1266]
After I discarded about 25% of the subs due to fog I had about 35x5min left. I reckon I need to review the subs I used in my M33 stack. Might be the issue with the lack of colors.
Enjoy the view.

That's a beauty Marc. Love the colours and the detail in the dust lanes. Is it drizzle processed?

Thanks Mike. Yeah definitely worth the trip.
Thanks Matt
Thanks Rob. I think it came up above the trees around 1:00am. I shot it Sunday, Monday & Tuesday.
Thanks Greg.
Thanks Andy . Your McBook one probably has better colours and contrast but I'm happy with the details.
Thanks a lot Raymo.
Thanks David
Thanks a lot mate.
Thanks Aidan. Yeah, it just fits in the FSQ field. Perfect scope to image it.
Thanks Mark
Thanks mate. No it was my normal processing flow in CCD Stack. Still working out some quirks with Bayer drizzle. I probably pushed the saturation too much to get the blues. That's hard to get them at that low altitude or you need a lot more integration time. I reckon the problem I've been having in PI were related to a batch of bad subs taken in the fog. It seems to really chuck a fit when there are dodgy subs in the pre processing script. Now I know I'll give it another go.

Absolutely stunning and a delight to explore. Magnificent.

Thanks a lot Mike. Glad you liked it. I think I'll do a final version to deal with the blue cast in the background and restore some of those star profiles as I was a bit heavy handed with saturation.

Round star with great star colour. Fine detail processing is excellent. I think you could tease out some more of the Ha regions though. And; maybe the back ground is a little blue. The detail and smoothness of the image is very nice in my opinion.
Marc how beautiful is that!
One of the best M31 I've seen from the Southern Hem.
I know how hard it is to image this from down here and you've done a great job.
One of my favourite objects and I'd love to image this again.
You've inspired me now, thank you.

You've inspired me to reprocess mine from a few years ago.

Thanks Paul. Yeah the blue cast is evident in the background because there is more noise in the blue channel due to lower elevation and I also pushed it harder for the color balance. I should do star mask to isolate the galaxy and stars and neutralize the colors in the field.
Thanks Andrew. It was on my to-do list and the main reason I did the trip up there originally. It was funny to see all the scopes on the field pointing an imaging south. I was one of the few imaging above the trees on the northern horizon
Thanks H. Good stuff. Looking forward to your version.

Yeah, really good Marc! Better than some NH versions I've seen. It would be a tough job from home though. Time well spent at Astrofest!

That looks great Marc, love the details and colour!
Great work Marc. You've got fantastic detail popping out there.
Agree with your concerns about fog. Its insidious at those low altitudes and easy to miss unless there is a whiteout.
I think sometimes the first hint on these low objects is sizeable gradients in what was otherwise a pretty dark sky. The reds are starting to peek through. What an amazing galaxy :)

Thanks Graham. One more reason to go to Astrofest next year. :)
Thanks a lot Jason.
Thanks Rob. You're right about the fog. I had some gradients to deal with. Still better than here.
