Hi everyone,

I am interested if anyone can give me an informed opinion regarding the following question about a Teleview 5x Powermate.

I am considering purchasing a Teleview Powermate 5x for use with an 11inch f10 SCT. The main viewing targets would be the Moon, brighter planets and closely separated double/multiple stars using a CCD imager.

Given the scope is perfectly collimated and the seeing is good etc would a Powermate offering this kind magnification be over kill for this scope?
I would appreciate any constructive advice you may have to offer.
Thanks to all in advance.

A 5x Powermate will give you almost 14 metres in focal length. I can't imagine that will be practical.

Have you tried the CCD imager at your scopes native focal length? Or maybe consider a 2x Powermate instead.

I think you could use the 5x on these objects using a high frame rate camera then staking the best from the video. Your location would be favorable to I would imagine.

Eris,
based on seeing and resolution obtaining an f ratio around f25-f30 (roughly x5 the pixel size in micron) is more than enough.....
For a f10 SCT this means a x2.5 PM or similar......
