EOS utility causing WiFi dropouts and stealing CPU

On my home network I've been tearing my hair out over network/router connection reliability over last few months. Desktop is running Windows 8.1

Noticed tonight Canon EOS Utility using 15% of CPU at rest!
A quick dig around web shows lots of threads like this saying 2.14.0 version from 2014 is poison:

Have updated to 2.14.1 tonight, and fingers crossed things play happier.
Posting in case anyone else has this Canon Malware installed :screwy:

Maybe they need to get your team to check their code in future?!
I'm starting to wonder if the router I replaced last year wasn't broken after all - will have to dig it out.

The 450D is my first and only DSLR to date - don't think Nikon would be making megabucks out of me :D

You may find that the cause of Wi fi dropouts is a Win8 and chipset/ driver issue, my Lenovo has suffered from WiFi dropout since new, aparently, if you can find it, there is another driver that doesn't suffer the same problem.

I have tried to disable Canon EOS because it inserts itself automatically and prevents Backyard EOS and nebulosity from starting cleanly.

To do this is went into Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/AutoPlay and scrolled down to where my Canon 40D popped up on the list. In each instance I then changed the default action to "Take no Action"and that seems to have had some effect.

You may find it alleviates your problem also.

Thanks guys. Away from home a couple of nights, but if the family is happier with more reliable wifi, then I'll be happier too....!

I had lots of wifi issues on some ASUS windows 8 laptops, until I ditched the Atheros junk inside and swapped to Intel Wifi modules. twice the performance, and zero dropouts. $30 each.
