Hi all,

I've had a look through the forum for advice in relation to laptops but couldn't quite find what I was after.

I'm looking for a new laptop to take into the field AND to use at home for image processing as I can't afford two computers. Ive been using an HP netbook for PHD2 with success but Registax and Backyard EOS won't work on it.

If anyone else has been though this recently I'd love to know what you got please?

Cheers
Geoff

Trouble with getting a big enough laptop to manage processing is that it's going to be a biggish beast with multiprocessors and that makes it power hungry as well. Although there is normally a 'battery' power saver mode on most of them to help.
Our analysts at work get Dell E6540, i5 processors with Win 7 64 bit. Seem very robust so far. I haven't had to fix many yet. Hard Drives are the DELL weak point, they seem to buy the cheapest they can find and their life is only just getting outside warranty, normally 3 years. RAM is also very important if you want some processing power, 8 gigs minimum. I run 32 on the home PC, 16 on the Ob PC. Can never have too much RAM.

Thanks Brent. I've been looking at the DELL website already and will check it out again.
