Here we go again people. I still cant seem to get the focus right. I read somewhere that the IR filter in the toucam can cause focusing hassles on refractors, even highly corrected ones like the Tak. This might be the problem, as I was sure I had it spot on.

Not sure what the situation is with I/R filters, I have NEVER used one, and that included Mars. Whereas others swear by them. Be nice to have a definitive answer though.

Hi, Nice image lots of detail present.
The recommendation from meade with the DSI and refractors is to remove the Ir filter, same goes for the LPI, The IR filter is there to help acro's focus the colours , you use a Tak so most if not all colour is already focused, try it again without the Ir filter and I think you will find getting focus will be easier. Then we will see some great shots from the Tak I am sure :-))
cheers

Great shot, apart from the soft focus. Was that at prime focus or with a barlow? What's the FL of your tak?
If the seeing allows, try for a bigger barlow for an increased image scale. Can't wait to see your next shots!

Exfso are you hartmann masking for focus on a star near Jupiter first (eg spica)? Apart from the focus lovely shot. I like the colour (maybe a bit less brightness/whiteness, can you adjust the white balance?) and I can definately see that there is detail hiding in under the off focus.
Top Stuff. Welcome to the addiction :cool2:

Nice Peter, already leaps ahead where I was one month into it. Yeah try removing the IR filter from the Toucam and see how that goes. It might help with your focus.
Doing well, keep at it. You got the equipment, your going to do it. Us Taureans can't help ourselves.

According to Matthew who sells the Toucam, the IR filter is an integral part of the original toucam lens, it is not the piece of glass covering the CCD. So it is, according to him without the IR filter when doing prime focus stuff. I am getting more confused.

So you're using the Toucam with the adapter only?? = no IR filter...??

Oh I thought you were using one. Anyway that's not the problem with the focus.
Was seeing really bad when you took this?
A bit of unsharp mask might make it look a bit sharper too.

yeah seeing was probably 5/10 at best and wind was about 5-10kts. not ideal thats for sure.
Cheers.

That might be some of the problem with the soft look then.. How many frames did you stack?
Have you got the original avi that I have a poke at?
