Hi,
Anybody messing about with SGP on a mobile set-up?
Would love to know your thoughts/pitfalls/advice on this SW.
I'm trying to incorporate it into my EQMOD Set-up routine as a workflow, so if anybody has a workflow for this already set-up would appreciate a heads up.
I've got Plate-solving working under 'lab' conditions- via Astrometry.net to any image i input, just need work out the set-up routine now.

Hi John. I have SGP/Eqmod as my setup and I'm mobile. The workflow I use is:
1. Set up and polar align
2. Slew to approximate area of object I'm interested in and do a blind plate solve and sync
3. Re-solve using Elbrus (only to speed up subsequent solves)
3. Slew again to object
4. Use centre-here to frame

Peter,
That sounds like a pretty straight forward workflow - the sort that'd I'd like to emulate :D
Will give it a go tonight - if the weather holds out.
Thanks for the info :)

Peter,
Tried SGP last night, followed the set-up routine as you suggested, and bam everything worked!
Thanks again for your 'overview' :)

now you have that working the next project is to get a stepper motor on your focuser so you can autofocus.

For some reason I can't get Elbrus to reliably plate solve my images, despite fine tuning of the image scale. In the end I gave up trying, and now I just have SGPro set up to solve using Astrometry.net right from the start of the plate solve procedure, which plate solves successfully every time.

Yes fair point, Before I throw out my DC motor focus however, i'm going to try Bahtinov Grabber and see if that works ok/better.
However if not then yes I fear the autofocus stepper motor maybe the next step -gulp:sadeyes:

I had the same problem with Astro-tortilla, and also the locally stored files for astrometry as well. I think I was setting the wrong image scale maybe? , however Astrometry.net works ok - so all i need to do is make sure i've always got internet access wherever I am imaging!!

You do not need internet access, set up astrometry. net as a local solver

George,
I tried that however it wouldn't solve with the local files :confused2:
Maybe I need to delete them and try again.

Did you follow the process here:

Peter,
Yep that's the one- I think i'll delete the files and re-download, looks like i may have just done something wrong maybe in the set-up. Not sure what though- so i'll just try the 'ultimate -turning it off and on again' lol
