Vela region - almost! I chose the wrong NGC number, being the small cluster NGC2547, meaning that I didn't capture the primary supernova remnant. But I'm posting this as it represents a further leap in my data collection with the Sony A7s - This comprises 15 shots of Ha (12nm filter) at 6 minutes each, plus the same set for RGB, all at ISO 3200. I'm very pleased with the final result, with quite a few reattempts to both highlight the Ha data and also not destroy the RGB. It was certainly a challenge. But yeah, I may have upped the sat a bit too much??
Better luck next time, I'll be trying to shoot the main SNR at our next outing to the Snake Valley star party

certainly red Simmo, where do you usually shoot? from mentone? do you use a light pollution filter for the RGB?
closely watching the A7s performing in these summer nights. it seems to hold up waaaay better than a standard (non 6d) canon.

Pretty amazing for only 90 minutes total exposure time.
The A7s seems a bit like the STL11 of DSLRs! (well mirrorless anyway!).
I take it the camera is modified. Is it also cooled?
Greg.

Thanks chaps. I do ALL my shooting from the ASV dark sky site now, I'm addicted to the dark skies there.
I wish the camera was cooled. It is modded though. Noise is there alright, but it's incredibly uniform, so PI and LR noise removal is very effective.

Looks good, Simon! Could be a bit redder perhaps? ;)

Hi Simmo,
quite good as you certainly have lots of signal.
Other pictures I see - show the NGC 2547 cluster as containing blue stars:

Do you have some shorter sub frames to show their colours?
Maybe you hit the full well depth & lost their colour?
cheers

Great. That's an interesting field. That vertical line looks like a water fall.
