Raspberry Pi 2 - anyone using to guide / Robofocus / Canon control

Thinking about getting a Raspberry Pi 2...

How does PHD run on it? There is also some talk of 'Lin_Guider'?

I'd like to use my Sbig STI; control the Canon 6D and Robofocus. Guessing this would involve Indi (don't know a great deal about it).

Wondering if all this is possible... and if you could help, would appreciate that too ;)

Windows 10 isnt yet running on the Pi 2
Its being released later this year
The Developers version will be available, I registered for it but nothing has appeared just yet.

Rally, I heard that too - and that it will be free! Nuts... Would somethings like PHD install directly to it? ASCOM?

I see that Software Bisque is doing some cool stuff in this space. See their blog: http://www.bisque.com/sc/blogs/seeker_blog/archive/2014/05/29/rtmc-amp-imaging-from-a-tablet.aspx They've got SkyX running on a Raspberry Linux machine driving Robofocus and SX gear.

Also, they are playing with a 'BeagleBoard'? I might just hold out for whatever SB brings to market. SkyX X2 driver support is a big thing. Robofocus. Canon. Sbig. It should all be there, eventually...

It has an ARM processor so it'll only be running applications compiled for Windows 10 on that architecture which, at the moment, isn't much. Anyone remember Windows RT *cough

It's much more realistic to look at running it for astro stuff under Linux, though I'd be interested to hear how realistic that actually is these days.


Also, not sure if there's a GUI for it but, gphoto2 can do full Canon camera control on a pi.

What I'm looking for is a highly portable, no fuss minimal cable setup. Yes, I haven laptops, but these Raspberry units just look so cool! To be able to guide from it is probably my main task. The Canon can be IR controlled manually, or wifi controlled from my Android. Robofocus done manually with the in/out keys with a bahitov. But guiding, no shortcuts there...

It's quite realistic so long as your components are supported.

I'm quite close to being able to fully switch to Linux for my whole workflow - from setup to capture to processing. I've got a couple of issues to get fixed/work around and I'll be there (biggest is an issue with the PA routine that doesn't quite have the timing right).

I use (as per sig): kstars/ekos/indi on Gentoo linux.
