I have just got a new laptop, and have downloaded the latest version of
the image browser. With the old version I could drag an image from the desktop and drop it into the browser, which would then open displaying
the dropped image. Can't do it with the new version, and can find nothing
in the user guide to help me get an image from the desktop into the browser. When I enter the image details into the search, it says no such image found. I also can find no way of going to a particular file to extract
an image for editing etc: I hate it, and am thoroughly confused. It seems
that my old version won't work with Windows 8.1, or I would go back to it.

raymo,

I know nothing about telescopes, although am learning.

However, I do know about computers. I did a quick search and found this http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200390902.html , have a look, and if it sounds good, try it. I do not profess to be an expert.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks Andrew, I stuffed up. It turns out that I needed Zoom Browser EX, not Image Browser. However I can't find out if it will work with Windows 8.1.

raymo,

I have found this http://canon-utilities-zoombrowser-ex.updatestar.com/ , it looks ok, and have now found this http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=Canon%20Z oomBrowser%20EX&vendor=Canon&Locale=1033%2C2057%2C3081%2C4105%2C 16393&ModelOrVersion=6&BreadCrumbPath=Canon%20ZoomBrowser% 20EX%20&LastSearchTerm=Canon%2BZoomBrowser% 2BEX%2B&Type=Software&tempOsid=Windows%208.1 have a read of it, I would be tempted to try it, create a restore point first in case things go horribly wrong (I dont think it will).

The person on that site is having problems as they installed the program and then upgraded their operating system, as you are not upgrading the operating system, just the software, it may well be ok.

What is your "old version", maybe that can be run in compatability mode.

Interested to know how you go with it.

Cheers
Andrew

I was given this laptop for Christmas, and unfortunately it doesn't have a
disc drive. I have all the discs, but obviously can't use them.
I couldn't see anywhere to download anything on the second site you sent me, and don't know which download button to use on the first site. Also,
it says demo next to what seems to be the most likely download button.
Confused; I'm getting on in years, and am not particularly comp
literate; in fact I dislike Windows 8.1. 7 was much more user friendly,
and XP better still.

I've ordered an external disc drive; we'll see if the original will install and
work.

raymo,

I apologise for not making it a bit easier. I have found another source to maybe make it easier.

Go here (http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200032305.html) have a look through, it does not say anything about Windows 8.1, but it may still work.

If you are happy to proceed scroll to the bottom of the page, there is a checkbox on the left, the text says "I have read and understood the information above, and wish to download the designated software", click the checkbox and a red download link will appear. Clicking that red link (it says "download") should start the download.

The second link that I gave you (in my original reply) was just there for further information for you. I am sorry if it purely confused you.

I hope this all works.

Cheers

hi raymo,

I use zoom browser on windows 8.1 and it works. I copied it from an old disc that came with my 600d.

hope that helps - I think it has been updated since then too.

cheers

Thanks Andrew and Rusty. I have the discs that came with my 1100D.
If I'm not confident with the download link, I'll wait until my external drive arrives.
