I'm still here, this is a heads up about two piers I hope to be putting in the for sale section when I get some photos in one or two weeks.

I shopped around for a long time for either a ready made or custom pier and found as most people do cost is not user friendly especially for one offs. Eventually I found a local fabrication company prepared to quote for a design that would meet my requirements.
Even after a couple of compromises this was still way outside my budget, however they said if I order three or more :eyepop: it would half the price :D, hence the 2 spares.

The main design can be seen from the attached drawings they are professionally made, laser cut and powder coated in black.
The 219 mm pipe has a wall thickness of 4.8 and is 950 mm high.
The three plates are all 320x10 mm and the fins 6 mm msp
The top plate (BB) has a 120 mm center cutout to allow for filling and mount adapters that need to be fixed from underneath eg G11 and EQ6 so they can be fixed without a rats nest. It also allows for a small amount of azimuth rotation just in case.
The adapter plate (AA) can either be bolted straight onto the top plate, or alternatively use a 4x M16 bolted rats nest arrangement for extra height etc. The plate is pre-drilled for the Losmandy Mount Adapter

You will need to supply a mount adapter and drill holes in the adapter plate to match.

Chris,

really interested in one of these - any idea what price you'd be looking at?

Hi Chris

I think the "Wysiwig pier" has already been trademarked by Wysiwig !

There is a whole thread on it on IIS.

Hi Niko - not the place to discuss this Ill have the mods on my back.

Once I get the first one depending on the quality which I expect to be A1 comparable to say the ALTAIR 8" but cheaper price wise with 1.89 exchange rate and expensive delivery.

You will have first refusal.

P.S give my regards to Ken

Apologies I did not realize WYSIWIG was a trademark. It was not meant to be a name but an indicator of What You See Is What You Get. - one size fits all and any colour as long as its black.

The Altair 8" is a (very) poorly engineered design.
It should not recommended nor copied.

Clive

I've never touched one, only seen the pictures and read the adverts so not easy to criticize the design other than a couple of obvious "made to a price" things. Certainly not copied, I would be interested in hearing about specific flaws to see which we have avoided or can plan for with the mark 2.

Might also help others thinking of building their own pier

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Clive,

I am not seeing the connection with the thread I started to this one.

Still haven't built my Pier yet, life seems to get in the way, I modified the design (about half way down) and incorporated the feed back.

as I say in my thread, I need to remember i am not imaging with the hubble and to keep it simple. I tend to over engineer stuff!
