Adiós Amigos.

The day has finally come where I must take leave of this fine community.

The discourse on this site has often been interesting.

However, there comes a time when one must enough is enough. And today is that time.

Goodbye all.

Cheers Peter :)

Sorry to see you go Peter!
Yes there are days when I read stuff here and wonder why I keep on logging on but overall it is still a great place to chill after a hectic day.

Hope to see you back ...........

Dear Peter,

Sorry to see you go. I've been visiting IIS for years but only joined recently as I'm not really a forum poster but I saw a few posts that I felt I could contribute to so I joined up. My second post was "corrected" by someone who felt the need to make a irrelevant point about a subject that is my job - and the comment they made was wrong  I could have got into an argument with them but what is the point - life is too short  I'll keep checking in on IIS because most of the stuff is great and informative but I won't be posting much. It is a shame that people can't just be respectful of others opinions and be kind to each other.

All the best and I hope the way you were treated by a certain member in no way affects your enjoyment of our great hobby - astronomy :)

Suggest you don't commit to leaving - just take an indefinite/indeterminate break. At some point, you may wish to return.

How hard is it to just 'click' away from something you're not interested in reading /discussing?

I think there is often more to it than that Chris, you can certainly click away but then sometimes you get PMs from the same source ...........

Agreed. I guess I don't personally get that involved in IIS.
It's a shame because I always enjoyed what Peter had to say on a range of issues.

It is a shame some folk get upset because of difficulties experienced with a particular person and turn their back on the group.
I personally enjoyed Peters posts.
I think this is a case where everyone loses.

This isn't something I have wanted to say, in case it is seen as just being a way of seeking attention, as some do do that on the site. Nor did I want to put this into the public arena, as it in regard to a personal hell.

I have had a number of people asking me to stay on this site. I didn't want to tell all of you the real reason why I have to take leave of this site, as it is quite personal.

I have suffered severe depression all my life and it is a terrible affliction for anyone to have, let alone having to deal with chronic pain too. It isn't easy dealing with this, I just make it look easy. By that, I mean, most people wouldn't even know that I suffer such bad depression or that I have suffered such serious injuries.

Early this year, I had an abusive phone call from an IIS.er, who shall remain nameless, but isn't a regular, by the way, saying that I have no idea what I am talking about, which frankly outraged me, at the time.

That, coupled with other incidents, of a similar nature, one very recently, on the equipment thread, made me realise that I am doing myself no favours exposing myself to such ridicule, even if, through ignorance, it wasn't intended, which resulted in myself making an ignorant statement, out of frustration. I am a smart guy, certainly smart enough to know when enough is enough.

Although I have a thick skin and am not really bothered by such comments, I did come to the realisation that IIS has been having some negative affects on me.

I have survived severe depression purely by keeping all negative affects, where possible, out of my life. I have also noticed that I have taken a couple of swipes at others, which has made me realise the negative affects of being on any forum.

This is a fine community, with many fine people on it, for the most part, and I will miss it, however, I need to do what is right for my own health.

Ice in Space used to give me many laughs, uproariously on occasions, but lately, it has gone downhill, as some people no longer take other people feelings into consideration. Sadly, I am not blameless in this regard either, but I have the capacity to admit when I am wrong, unlike some.

Thank you to all those that have shown encouragement and who have helped me along the way.

Finally, for those that suffer depression, don't think you are being tough by keeping it to yourself, seek help. I did a long time ago and had been given strategies to cope.

I will take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

This will be my final post. As some have expressed that they want to keep in contact, can through email stardrifterwa@gmail.com

Cheers Peter

Holy s**t! Someone called you up after an internet argument? That is hardcore! I've had a couple of PM's before but I just delete them immediately as to deny indulging them.

Man, do what you have to do to get better.

Hi Peter, man that is a bit rough.

I can understand you wanting to step back from it all.

Have a break and a great Christmas, hopefully you may want to rejoin one day.

Take care in the meantime.
