I have received my 31mm Nagler.........first impressions going by the size of the eyepiece box was they sent me a Telescope instead of the eyepiece......its huge.....

Its raining at the moment so I cant test the 31mm Nagler but I am just happy to look and feal it for the rest of the afternoon and possibly over the weekend....lol

My eyepiece collection is almost complete so I will post a pic or two..

My 2" collection starting with my Powermate 4x, Nagler 31mm, Meade 14mmUW and finaly my 17mm Nagler.

Very nice! Can't wait to read the reviews!

What will you use the 4x powermate for? Are you going to get a 2x, or use your gso 2x?

I think the 4x will be a little too much mag for most of those eyepieces, unless you plan to use it for imaging later down the track.

I purchased the 4 x for Imaging when I get around to it...yes I will be getting the 2x Powermate probably in the next month....2 x barlow is going.....

I will get Mark Hodson to do the review......he has the experience and he has also been stalking me......lol

So YOU'RE to blame. :mad2: Andrew for that I think he has to pass it around for a couple of months until he's repentant. Jeeesss the amount of lousy weather we've been having the last couple of months. Now we know why! :tasdevil: :tasdevil: :tasdevil:

Hye Tony. I hope it clears up for you :P eventually:D

Can't wait to get my hands on it.
Looks mighty impressive.
Have you put it down yet?
When the rain that you organised goes and you come out , I will try to get Graeme (Saturn%25) to bring out his 12"GSO Dob so we can see how it goes in an f5.
He's just around the corner from me so to speak.
We can also do a direct comparison against the Andrews 30mm as well.
I know , I can here it now , no contest , but it will be interesting.
Will have to make it a moonless night to get the best of the DSO's.
Iceman that's what I use my 4x PM for , imaging without having to resort to EP projection.

Great idea Paul

Do you want it for the first month, or should I take it ?

No need to put it in the post Tony - you know where we live so just drop it around at your earliest convinence - once we decide whose borrowing it first :)

no a comparison to the GSO will be good mark :)

you writing it or is tony? ;)

Actually the first thing on my to buy list once the observatory is finished is a Nag 31mm.
I have always wanted one and the Andrews 30mm is a stop gap untill that day arrives.
I also want to add a couple of Radians to my collection and hope I can find one or two to try one day.
Any one got one out there ?

Oh great......Does that mean I have to provide my own security personal if I want to just come over for a visit.....

I can see it now....Mark the 31mm Nagler is over their inside the electric fence area with the 2 armed guards....just make sure you walk through the Metal detector first.....lol

Even though the 31mm Nagler is a nice eyepiece...dont they recommend a parracor for an F5 scope.

BTW $2:00 a look or 3 looks for $5

By all means Andrew, you first. When you're finished with it, bring it up and we'll try it out in the observatory first then I'll try it on my 8" for a month. Maybe David (westsky) would like a try after that :P:P:P

By that time Tony will be chastened enough not to buy anything more for a couple of months, so we can have some clear skies for a while :lol2:

The 31mm terminagler is just awesome in my 10inch f5 gso dob (as it should be considering it costs more than the scope) .

There is no comparison to an eyepeice like a 30mm gso.

I think I have forgotten how to use an EP it's been that long.
Looks good Tony can't wait to try it out :D

Thats an absolute monster, now I have a problem for you. You won't be able to use the EP until you get a decent weight set, to Counter balance the OTA. I got the Astro Engineering one from England (currently in France await the next move). If you don't you are going to put strain on your gears and clutch. Still I am sure one night of fiddling won't hurt, but not much more than that.

You can send it down to my place in about five days and I will test it out for you. LOL.

Great set mate. You went the 2" route I went the 1.25 route (cheaper) but still costs lots of money. Wish I had your wallet for a while. Congrats on the acquistions.

Striker
18-03-2005, 06:43 PM
Yeah paul.......I already use a weight set and dont need to use them all for my 17mm Nagler.....the 31mm Nagler isn't much differnce in weight so it shouldn't be a problem...

Nice looking peice of Hardware!

Pity about the little bit of rust around the bottom.

Is that the usual quality for Kmart?

David,

Why do I keep getting asked that whenever I put a graphic in the posts? It only took about 5 minutes to do.

Crappy EP he bought isn't it! :wink2:

Great stuff Ken

Even noticed the chunk out of the eyecup.

On second thoughts Tony - I'm not sure I want the rust near my JMI DX2 focuser. :)

Ok...I have done a thorough review on my 31mm Nagler.....

Review: ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Review Complete.....lol

Paul......I had it all set up with Microfocuser, 2" Diagonal and the 31mm Nagler......to balance it, all I needed was just 1 of the weights out of the 3 that comes with the Meade weight set...it was the heaviest one but I was a little surprised....I thought it would have needed a little more to balance.

I took some pics mainly of the moon...I want to compare them to my moon shots I took with GSO 30mm eyepiece.....

I also took a saturn shot just for the hell of it.....i'm bit scared even to look at that one but I will....the night was poor with all the clouds but was fine for moon shots....

One thing I thought really stood out with the 31mm Nagler besides the FOV was the M42...for such a poor night for viewing I could clearly see heaps of the green colour...lot more then the normal viewing I get from my light poluted house......

Anyway......their is probably going to be a few of us going to Mark Hodson's place midweek so mark can review the eyepiece properly.

If you think that the 31mm Terminagler is big...

This morning I opened up my first Meade Series 5000 24mm UWA. This eyepiece is at least as big as the 31mm Nagler, which can only leave one to wonder at the size of the 30mm Meade.

Poor weather here has prevented me from testing the new Meades at night, but I'll post some impressions when available.

Wow enjoy the view Tony ....... just watch your meade 2 inch diagonal {i think thats what youve got }, the silver tube part screws from the main body {helps in cleaning the mirror} and can come loose over time , main did and i had my 14UWA in it at the time .

Now all you need now is a new 16 inch RCX400 to go with those.....:face:

That would be nice Phil.......but considering my scope is only 3 months old I think I should atleast wait till the end of the year before upgradding....lol

Stuart......I realised that on friday.....I happen to be looking at the thread for any 2" filter I may be looking at and noticed it can be screwed off...so I will be keeping an eye on that...thanks.
