Maxim stacking- "out of memory"

Hi me again, this past few weeks have been banging my head against the wall with LRGB frames and maxim. Now have come across something that has never happened to me before.
Even using as little as 40 frames, I am getting the out of memory alert then maxim crashes. This is maxim DL 5 .
I have a Quosmio puter with plenty of memory and grunt.
I want to know which memory MAxim uses when align and stacking to see if can expand further. But it seems odd that this has not happened before.

Graham - I had this problem continually with Deep Sky Stacker, and I had 16GB of RAM onboard. MaxIM stacking drives me crazy - never seem to get a decent result. CCDStack on the other hand always works for me - a little expensive, but beautiful, precise results.

I do get MaxIM crashes when opening file folders, oddly. Have asked them for an answser, no response yet.
