Compatiable Canon Ink

Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone here has used Compatible Canon Ink Cartridges, and what are their thoughts on the results.

I have always used Canon Paper and genuine ink, and have had great results, however as i print a lot it has cost me a fortune over the years.

I am seriously considering to use some compatible ink, which is heaps cheaper, but is it any good.:shrug:

I would love to hear you opinions on the subject please.

My personal opinion is to stick with the manufacturer's inks (they make inks which are optimised for your system/paper). I know how expensive printing can be! Mine costs me $1K to replace all my inks if I were to do all 8 cartridges in one go!

Thanks H, yea, you are probably right, I will just have to suck it up, so far i reckon i could have bought 10 printers for the money i spent on ink. lol

Might be worth checking on Ebay, Leon.
I get genuine Epson cartridges from a guy in Thailand for about half the local cost-even cheaper if I buy multiple packs.

Just a thought, Canon printers can be very argumentative when refilling carts, so called chipped carts from EBay often do not work very well for much of the time.
For economy sake and greater efficiency I would suggest getting a Brother multipurpose printer. They start at around $99 from Office Works (MFC-J475DW) and Brother has recently introduced external refillable tanks which plug into the cartridge bay, which is in a fixed position accessed from the front panel.

Thanks Dave, however I have decided to stay with the genuine stuff, I have been happy with it, and although a bit expensive the quality is good.

Just a FWIW...

I bought some (5) clear, chipped cartridges off eBay for my iP4850.....removed the original Canon chips from the M.T. Canon cartridges & placed them on the refillable, clear ones.
Bought the required selection of inks (in kit), which included all the necessary hypo's/chip re-setter/instructions etc., from the local computer markets & am happy as a clam.

No more expensive Canon cartridges to buy.

Been using Calidad generic ink in my Canon's, HP's and Lexmarks for around 12 years now. Initially, until I understood what to do fully, there were issues, but haven't had a problem since an industry refill guy told me what/how to do it PROPERLY (chips, cleaning the tank properly, replacing or cleaning the sponge properly etc). Currently on my 5th Calidad refill for the HP all-in-one we have at home, and it can sit MONTHS sometimes before printing a page (no issues with coagulation or clogging). In fact, I have had some refills outlast the printer! (LEXMARK)

IT really is THAT simple - HP, Canon, Epson etc. Clean well, know how to reset them, use generic ink, save a BOAT load.

Noted Leon, basically there is really no long term solution. Also much of the EBay 'cheap' ink causes problems and dries out in the system unless you run it regularly. I just had to heave an Ip2700 into the bin (dirt cheap model) for that very reason.
An interesting feature with the Brother I bought is, they say to leave it powered up as it auto self cleans at regular timed intervals. It has a built in Calendar/Time clock for that purpose also for time/date stamping.

For years now I have been using Rihac continuous ink supply system, with no probs at all. Check out there site at www.rihac.com.au
They cover most Canon, Brother, Epson And HP printers.

I know that you said that you decided to use the genuiiiiinnnne Canon inks but I thought I'd add
a word about using the ^, continuous supply systems.

Be prepared for an over-flow from the "ink tanks" (felt pads), & you decide to keep using the printer. (Provided it doesn't stop printing & you do a "Reset".)

It gets really messy.
