LMC Widish Field

Time to get back into the swing of some DSO imaging, after more than a few headaches and failures.
The LMC is a composite of 3 shots, each about 2 minutes, at ISO125, with the dreaded Nikon D100, and old/ugly Nikkor 300mm at f4.5.
Definitely an object to work on.

So that's where all my cloud had come from. Left the Land of the Long White Cloud and headed to Queensland. :P I hope it stays away for you a bit longer so you can post a few more of these.

thanks, I have had a few (no, more than a few) glitches with guiding/imaging lately, and almost ready to throw in the towel, being the wimp I am.
This one was an effort to revert back to basics. Being a 300mm it didn't need quite the guiding, but it was, on the G-11, and using the ToUcam and Robby's StarMate.
I had intended shooting about 8 - 10 images for stacking, but the cloud only allowed 3, and then covered the sky. Such is life.
The slave stacked them in Photshop. I may rework it, and try a dark or two, something I haven't really persevered with, as I simply use the built in N/R setting.

Lovely shot, might I suggest using a flat field on the shot. Other than that, this is very good, captured the irregularity very well. Congrats and lets see some more.

Is their any chance someone can use 1 image and explain the difference......I hear terms such as Flat field, F10,F20,F30 focal reducers virtualy every term when it comes to astrophotography......

It would be nice if someone could show us in picture form what these differences are.....

For eg...Gary's picture looks great to me but what would a flatter field do and what difference does it make to the picture.....

Maybe have 4 or 5 pictures of the same image using and explaining what I have just spoken about....

In short...all I want to know is what difference this make to your image......I'm sure others are scratching their heads aswell...I hope.....lol

unfortunately the IT dept here at work swapped my old CRT for a LG flatron LCD... pics dont look as good on the monitor and i dont seem to be able to do anything about it :(
