Monitor with red backlight

I came across this and thought it might be of interest to those with an obs. It's a new series of monitors from HP which feature a night mode with a red backlight!

They're also 10bit displays and are calibrate-able so good for processing too.
It says the 24" will be US$599 so not a bad price for that level of display.

If you cut/bend the green and blue pins on a VGA cable you will end up with a red screen I am not sure if it behaves the same though.

Most monitors have removable cables, so you can just have 2 one regular and one hacked for red screen usage.

I have spare cables if anyone want one to play with. I have attach a diagram showing the pinouts and a before and after shot of my screen.

The problem with totally crippling the Blue and Green channels and running normal full-colour applications is that there would be no distinction between anything rendered in White (or any colour which has full bright Red in the RGB mix) and Red in the source app, because with only one colour channel, they will all come out looking exactly the same. You really need to use software which is configured for a monochrome display, OR a colour screen driver which partially suppresses the Blue and Green channels, but doesn't extinguish them fully.

For example:

White = 255 Red / 255 Green / 255 Blue
Red = 255 Red / 0 Green / 0 Blue
Yellow = 255 Red / 255 Green / 0 Blue
Magenta = 255 Red / 0 Green / 255 Blue
and so on.

All of these colours would be rendered as bright Red (= 255 Red / 0 Green / 0 Blue) if you totally extinguish the Blue and Green channels.
