Hard Drive / Data Recovery in Sydney area

Hi guys

Any recommendations for a data recovery service in the Sydney (or Central Coast) area?

My wife's 2.5" hard drive from her laptop has died. It doesn't sound 'broken' (not clicking or anything), but it won't boot.

I've pulled it out and connected it to a SATA/USB adapter, and while the drive letter does come up, no contents is displayed and Explorer just hangs. When I mount it in another laptop (as a slave drive) the laptop won't even boot when it's connected to the laptop.

I'm trying to recover photos off it for her. I've already put an old SSD in the laptop so she's up and running again but just want to get the data off.

Boot sector corrupted?
You can run Puppy Linux from a cd and recover files and reformat.
It's a familiar look graphic user interface.

Mike, the prices are highly variable depending on the problem. They have indicative pricing on the "Hard Disk Data Recovery" page.

It was many years ago that I needed to use them so their prices would have undoubtedly increased over that time and I can't remember the actual cost.
I do know they are not cheap but 'you gets what you pays for' and if the data is worth keeping it is worth it.

Easiest thing is to contact them, explain your predicament and let them advise what they think is appropriate action. They were very helpful when I needed them.

if you can afford to use $50 for a cheaper solution, buy a usb hard drive dock. even if it doesn't work, they can be a handy item to have. most do 2.5", 3.5", esata, ide and sata drives.

if it works then you've saved yourself some money ..

Try the puppy linux route first, Free and it won't do any damage.
I rescued a heap of data off a seriously virused PC hard drive a while back. Easy enough to use and it boots froma CD or even a USB and exits without leaving anything on the host PC.

Failing that, look for an identical, second hard drive off of gumtree or eBay. Same make and model is what you need.

Simply swap the daughter boards on them, and if there is no internal physical damage (as you mentioned), then it should spin up again and be usable once more.
