Hi.
Seeing was just a bit above average, but with Jupiter below 30deg the red result as posted was still pretty soft - colour was unusable. Mars was better and colour was available, but still not full definition - nothing much to see on this face anyway :). Had hoped for the moon and Saturn, but the clouds won and it has stayed that way since. Thanks for looking. Regards Ray

Lovely Mars shot. You got it to look so natural and 3D, and still with plenty of detail. I like that Jupiter, too - plenty of subtle detail.

Some people depict Mars as South up, and others North up. Is there a convention on that or is it simply artistic preference?

That is such a natural shot of Mars Ray!

Really impressive.

Jupiter must be very low for you is SA. It is very low for me in Brisbane! Impressive result given the altitude!

Take care,
Doug

Good to see you out with the planets, your Mars is honest and planet looking as its seems spherical shaped with decent features showing. Mine tend to look flat.

John.

thank you. I think that there may have been a South up convention for representing things as they appear through a scope in the northern hemisphere. I like to show things more or less as they appear in the sky in the southern hemisphere. However, there are many who prefer the euro-centric view of cartography, so attached is the other way up :).

Thanks Doug. yes, Jupiter is right down in the weeds and this is my first attempt for the season - couldn't get up enough enthusiasm to even try until recently.

Thanks John, was nice to image something close for a change. Seeing was that flickery stuff that we all know so well, so there wasn't much contrast in the detail.

I certainly wouldn't say your images look flat - you have produced some real beauties just lately.

Awesome Pictures Ray, can you tell me what equipment was used to take these?

Thanks Maurice.

Hi Joe. used a modified GSO 12 inch Dob OTA on an EQ6 with a QHY5L2 and Astronomik filters. About f20 for Jupiter and about f25 for Mars using a Televue 3x Barlow

Love the Mars image in particular. It looks very natural and crisp with a 3D appearance – nicely captured and processed.:)

A really good image of Jupiter, I’m surprised you pulled this off so late in the Jove season.

Cheers
