I have purchased Backyard EOS, but windows can't read the help
file, so I have no idea how to use it. Anyone else had this problem? and if so, how did they get around it? Any help appreciated.

Maybe check to see if Windows has blocked your use? Right-click the file name and select Properties. If it is blocked you should be able to unblock it there.

BackyardEOS opens o.k. and everything seems to function; it's just that
when I click the help button it says windows cannot open this file, so I
have no idea of the file's name.

Ray, my friend... I'm not sure why you are posting this here. You asked me the same thing in an email this morning... and I replied with the solution.
As I said in the email, the help file is a pdf. You need to install pdf reader form adobe. That is it.
BackyardEOS has it's own support forum. I recommend using it as per instruction when I sent your key. Answers to your support question will be much, much faster if you use the dedicated BackyardEOS support forum. The forum is at http://forum.otelescope.com.
Hope this helps,

So we got it to work. Did a remote login session with Ray... only to find out that Windows Media Player was set as his default program to open PDF files. Set it to PDF reader instead and all is fine.
Glad you are up and running Ray :)

My apologies to Guylain for all the inconvenience I caused him.
As anyone interested enough to notice my teetering progress in
astro imaging would know, I am not very comp literate.

No worries Ray, I'm just glad it works now.
