PS installation problem

I installed PS7 on my laptop several years ago, and recently decided
to put it on my desktop, but it will not install. It begins the process,
and then says "installation failed", or words to that effect. Does anyone know if you can only use the disc for one computer, or whether I
actually have a problem. It's frustrating because my laptop is very
slow, and has a tiny memory.

I seem to remember something about Photoshop having to be deinstalled from the existing machine before allowing an install on another, not sure of the exact process, perhaps someone else will fill in the blanks.

More then likley you made need to use compatiblity mode with xp sp2 selected. PS7 is legacy i mean its win 98 old, send me a pm for more info.

Photoshop CS2 version 9 is available free. Why not try that version.

There is no impediment to installing PS on multiple computers.
Later versions will probably not activate properly though.
The OS version compatibility mentioned by Jay is a likely explanation.
As Barry notes, the activation server for CS2 has been decommissioned and Adobe publish a license key that will work without activation. Download it and install with the key provided.
It's probably your best bet to get going.

Further notes on the "free" version. It is quite a large download, about 2GB if I remember right because it is Creative Suite with all the extras. There is a trick to installing it that seems to stump everyone that does not read the instructions. It comes with two folders Disk1 and Disk2. The install program is in disk 1 and when that is loaded and run it will ask for disk 2. At this stage to continue just double click in the disk 2 folder and the installation will complete.

Raymo I had the same problem with PS7. I am using it on the laptop I am on at the moment and it installs on my Netbook but not on the Lenovo Desktop which is certainly spec'd enough to run it. All are Windows 7 and I have no clue why it would not install.
What I am looking at in terms of an upgrade is the licensing arrangement for Lightroom. Paying 9.90 per month to instal and to use it seems reasonable.
I like PS 7 and use that and Corel Paintshop Photo Pro which is similar to Lightroom

ps don't forget The GIMP it's free and quite powerful, and takes PS plugins.

the Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 cloud bundle is pretty decent value.
You have both products for $9.90 per month and they'll be up to date as long as you maintain the subscription.

I heard that the cloud version .. once you discontinue your subscription you no longer have the right to your files? I only heard this at work thou it maybe wrong.

update .. ok had a Google and seems to be alright .. they just won't sync after subscription is lost.

that is probably correct, but you could always run the raw files through the free dng converter if you wanted to go back to the raw source for some reason. Otherwise you'd just work from your tif master file.

Yeah, it's a big change and there is a lot of uncertainty. But I think Adobe have a high awerness of the trepidation that people feel and are treading lightly and making the pricing quite appealling.
