Greetings All,

John B has suggested I look through some Baader Hyperion and Orion Stratus EPs during Astrofest prior to possible purchase. If you would not mind sharing the experience, would you please email me or post a reply with details of the scope(s) you will using - so I can find you.

Cheers,

Hedley.

Hedley

I will be going to Qld Astrofest but I don't have any Baader Hyperions/Orion Stratus eyepieces.

My only not very helpful suggestion is that you ask around when you get there. Just perhaps York Optical will allow you to borrow. If you don't ask you are not given. You could also use the astro mailing list to see if any other members of SAS have some and are willing to share.

cheers

Hi Hedley

I will be bringing my 21mm Hyperion (2”). Look for a C9.25 atop a Tak EM200.

Cheers

Dennis

I have on order a 8mm Orion but themost recenty advice I had form Biontel was that it was unlikely to arrive in time for Astrofest :(

We did however discuss a backup plan in that IF it arrived down there in time they might be able to bring it up to Astrofest with them for me to collect there. That would therefore be late in the week, if at all.

*fingers crossed*

I have a 10" GSO dob with black base / white tube and (by then) way too many electrical leads running to and fro across it powering various heaters and an oversized fan.
:screwy:

Cheers!
Steve

It was a pleasure to met you at Astrofest after all Hedley, and I'm sure that bag full of ep's that you came away with will serve you well!

Cheers!

I have a 13mm Hyperion, but I am very curious as to how they compare with the Orion Stratus as the design is identical, the coatings being the only difference. They certainly are a good EP for the money.

I bought the Hyperion in 17mm at Astrofest (and VERY impressed so far), and with luck my long awaited Stratus 8mm should arrive this week (fingers crossed) so with fortune smiling down on me I may be able to offer a valid opinion by next week.

I've done a bit of searching on the net to help me understand EPs.
I can find info on the generic types, such as Plossl, Orthoscopic, but not the pros and cons of the popular manufacturer's names such as Hyperion vs Panoptic vs Radian, etc.
Can anyone point me to a good review/comparison/primer?
I like the idea of stepping into deep space like some of the wide AFOV's do, but my eyesight's limited as I am over 60. ie I'm assuming I'm limited to an exit pupil of about 5mm. (and I only wear glasses for reading).
