See image below. This is what happens when I go to sharpen this image (as an example the sharpening has been set to max so the patterns are visible). When I do small increments these weird shape patterns start to appear.

Would anyone know why and how to blend them in to the rest of the image?

I do a bit of sharpening but only a bit. Looking at the raw footage that area of the Sun seems to lack detail but then produce those weird lines.

Are you working with AVI files?
Using Registax 5 or 6?

OK.
Then using a small amount of Registax wavelet corrections should probably be as much sharpening as you need.
PS can be used for artificial colouring and blending of prom exposures to disk or mosaics.....

Are you saying:
Why can't I sharpen the image in PS?
or
Why is sharpening the image (after stacking) in Registax all there is?

IMHO 90%+ of the time, Registax wavelets will give you more "sharpening" than you'll ever need with solar images.

With the image I did that you saw I didn't use any wavelets in Registax, only used Photoshop. The raw footage I took of that one was fine.

Hmmm
Can you post a before and after shot?

I still think Registax would do a better job.

Even the slightest wavelet change there is noise on the image which is why I avoid it.

Is it possible that my raw data isn't as good?

I agree that the wavelets do a better job (it did wonders on my Moon shots!).

Looking at the second image on that thread...all the levels of wavelet corrections are ticked at very low numbers..this is not the way to use them.
When applying wavelets start down the bottom at #6 and change the setting until in the preview screen the image starts to clean up, without noise. Then move to #5 and do the same.
I don't usually, or very sparingly, use #2 or#1 - these can give noise speckles and over contrasty looks.

It produces noise. Also can you see them 2 weird lines on the zoomed up part?

I am hoping it's the raw data I captured that is lacking quality. I will be annoyed if it's the type of camera.

It doesn't seem to be the camera at least. I found this site where this guy has a PST and QHY5L-II. Look at those images!!

If he has the same equipment as me (he probably has a different mount) then I should be able to get something like this!

Since this is my first time I obviously need more practice!
