Hey everyone.

Got my QHY5L-II camera today! It came with a bunch of software and a readme but I am still not sure which software to install to get it working.

I am running XP Parallels in Mac.

Can anyone help on which software packages to install? Would SharpCap or EZYPlanetary be better to use?

Thanks!

For some reason it didn't like XP. I got errors so I put Windows 7 on and it seems to be fine.

There are so many drivers though I am confused!

EZYPlanetary is for non cooled Qhy camera's so that is the one to install mate.
Sharpcap is for cooled camera's.
First install the basic driver and then the rest.
In the vmware install the high compatibility drivers.

Ive had a lot of problems with the QHY drivers - I have the Orion version of the QHY5-II and mono QHY5L-II, and they don't live together well.

Cheers mate I will give that a go.

I used the iCap software for my NexImage 5 but I had problems with it so switched over to SharpCap and worked perfectly!

Install,
High Compatibility Driver (Ver13-1-7) (http://qhyccd.com/file/repository/Driver/QHY5_IIDrv64V13-01-07.zip)
QHY5L-II ASCOM (http://qhyccd.com/file/repository/ASCOM/QHY5LIIASCOMSetupV10.zip)
EZPlanetary

Those are the things you need to get it to work.

Legend thank you so much its working!

When I select a resolution it seems to lock itself to that resolution until I restart the software, do you know why?

I can have a look tomorrow after work and report back.
It might have something to do with how you run it in another operating system.
Will see tomorrow.

Stefan i have just checked the camera in Eazyplanetary and i have to close the program too when i want to change the resolution.
This is on a win7 system.
So this is normal.
Martin.

I gave it a go on a Virtual Machine on my PC and it worked fine, on Parallels on my Mac it detects the camera but when I go to record it creates the file but nothing records and there is no live picture.

Hi Stefan,

When I run it under Parallels (Win7) on my macbook, I can't get it to work (checked last night). It sees the QHY5L-ii camera, and it seems to connect to it, but it reports no framerate (lower left corner). I have to terminate EZPlanetary. I can't record anything as I have only 5G free disk space :) (well I could but worried that windows stop working with no free space).

However, I always boot into bootcamp and all works great. I can switch resolutions using the 'camera'(?) dropdown menu (first unselect the current one, and then reselect a new one).

This doesn't really help you though, just so you know.

cheers,
Bram

Thanks for the input.

I have switched to using BootCamp now and gave it a healthy 100GB partition so I can record heaps of video then copy it over to the Mac partition later on.

I was having the exact same problem as you running it under Parallels.
