Lagoon in Infrared.

Reasonably happy with that one. Seeing wasn't crash hot last couple of days but it still turned out ok. Bottom panel is a little blurrier. So 2 panels of 12x10min each shot with my 8" newt and QHY9 while testing the new focuser system and different coma correctors. Getting there with the field. Guiding could be better. I was guiding through the finder and will setup the OAG next once I have the right spacing for the MPCC.

Really like this shot marc :thumbsup: the nebulosity blends nicely with the stars.

Interesting to see it in IR Marc. Seems to be emphasising the dark dust areas nicely.

Nice shot Marc.

The dust lanes should be less obvious when compared to visible images.
NIR wavelengths are much longer than the particulate size of the obscuring matter and scattering is less. The dust lanes should therefore be less opaque in NIR.

Thanks Ross. :thumbsup: Nearly there with the new rig. Tiny bit more spacing with the MPCC and I'm on the money I reckon. I'm also trying to source 300mm of 8" CF tube to do a solid dewshield. I'm having some issues with doing flats with my EL sheet. Stray light. I think it's too close to the secondary and light leaks into the focuser barrel. That secondary is huge.

Then finally will need to insert the OAG in the imaging train. At this image scale I just can't get away with the lazy guider guiding anymore. :P

I was comparing the dust detail in the Lagoon Nebula.
Maybe the differences are not as apparent in the surrounding parts of the image.

The difference in NGC 7793 is quite striking.

On a different topic I think a wide field image of the Coal Sack in NIR might be very interesting.
I purchased an NIR filter specifically to image RCW71 an emission nebula which is heavily obscured by the Coal Sack. I was expecting considerable improvement over a visible light image as NIR should have cut through the Coal Sack, instead it was a lot worse.
It could mean that RCW71 isn't very bright in NIR or the Coal Sack is lit up in NIR resulting in loss of contrast of RCW71. (Something like the lack of contrast in the NIR image of NGC7793).

Best thing I ever did for the big AG12 too...took me long enough :rolleyes: :lol: With a Newt the chances of diff flex is very high, the OAG remedies this nicely :)

I tried IR, LUM/IR, LUM in the past and it seems to work. Later on I'd like to get the full set of IR filters but they're costly.


Yeah the challenge is to fit it within the corrector spacing.
