Reinstalled my SBIG St-8XE again, and again went through the usual SBIG headache installing all the drivers manually since it wants to reference a Windows subfolder that does not exist in Windows 7 64 bit (and this is using their July 2013 Win 7 64 bit files)

So, after a lot of fiddling even to get the Driver Updater to even register the necessary dll's, sys files and hex files, I then try CCDOps, and try launching the camera. No dice, says it cannot find it.

So, I check PHD - connects just fine, including the internal guide chip and image is fine. Try Maxim, connects fine, including the internal guide chip, image is fine, cooling is great, so try CCDOps again, and it still tells me no camera attached blah blah blah and to check my connections in misc.

Sorry SBIG, your software SUCKS ROCKS. SO arcane way of doing things, compared to Starlight Xpress and Atik etc. I am far from a lazy P&P person, and enjoy a software/hardware chalenge, but I didn't expect to have to create new system folders, rename dll's (after having to FIND a DLL online it should have installed anyway!) and actally have to use the antiquated routines.

Does ANYONE know how to get CCDOps to wake up into the 21st century and actually recognise something that it is designed to recognise???

But I love this camera - currently testing it on a 32°C ambient day, and I have had the cooling on for 5 minutes and it's down to -8.1°C already. Wonder what it will do with the water cooling :D

Fixed - had to copy all the dll's, sys, inf and hex files into the main CCDops directory. That's just lame. Surely they could make that so a user doesn't have to do that!

Just don't add ice to your cooling water - condensate will form on the camera and drown it. 40 degree below ambient is typical for that sort of camera. Water might get you another 5 degrees.

No idea about CCDops, I use maxim.

Enjoy.

I am a bit concerned adding the water cooling, so will leave it alone for now.

I am using Maxim also, so will see how it goes hopefully tonight.
