Software for PDA (either Palm or PPC)

Just wondering if there is any software that displays the night sky like Starry Night Pro for either PPC or Palm.

By that, I have software that can display the sky in the traditional sky chart based format on the screen, but what I would really like is to have one that can show the horizon, where you can pan around up and down etc.

I suppose the sky cahrts can do this, but I find the SNP format easier.

Can you disable the graphing i.e. the RA finder stuff?

Planetarium is very versatile. If you have a late model palm (T3/5/x) it will display stars down to mag 16. You can turn off guides, lines, constellation lines, deep sky objects. Need plenty of room for data, and fast processor to display lots of stars etc. Can't sing praises high enough. Can even control your scope. If you have a lower power machine or not much room, don't load the big catalogues. Oh, and it is pretty good in mono as well.

Forgot to mention that the images in my last post wer 30 deg firld for the first 5, stars at 7th mag. The last 2 were 2 deg, stars to 16th mag.

The program is shareware and I think I paid $20US 10 years ago. Gives you free updates, best money spent.

There are other programs, sky2sky, skypilot. had a look at those years ago. but was most impressed with Planetarium.

I have a few list applications for my palm, but I end up using a manual spreadsheet which I update later on my PC.

I find it very versatile and smart.

Its available for PC, PDA & Phones.

That planetarium looks great. Can it be set up as a push-to for a Dob? This is the sort of thing I've been dreaming about! :)

Personal Sky Chart (http://www.clearskyinstitute.com/psc/index.html) is what I've been looking at, but from what I gather it only runs on a Sharp Zaurus PDA, whatever the heck that is.

Sure does, however palm has a white light besel around the screen which can be annoying. Sky2sky has a great redlight mode which hacks all the apps on the palm...EVERYTHING is in redlight mode.

Planetarium also has an observation log. If you are locked on an object, go to the log, tap new = object name time already inserted. Or tap list to choose object class from drop down menu, then list. After choice tap "loc" for you location to be inserted, then graffiti your notes... another cool facet.

Looks pretty cool, pity not for palm os. I've been looking for a lunar phase calendar for the palm... the only one I have found that isn't an asian horoscope won't run on os4 or 5. I ruin it on Anne-Louises iiix and iiic.

That one in pocketstar looks GOOD.
