M17, The Swan Nebula
Just one hour total exposure time on this one. But it's enough to be able to tease out the finer detail that is sometimes missing due to over exposure of this quite bright nebula.

Very nice work JJJ, my only criticism is on the stars appearance, perhaps a filter applied on size reduction (minimum?) gave them the strange look, I would try to recover a bit of the original "gaussian" light curve on the stars ;)

Wow jj, that is a spectacular result, I can hardly believe it was produced from your 1100D, but I do believe it as you have tooken it . . Nice detail with the wispy bits & a very deep capture, well done ! !

Nice work Jeanette,
I never knew about the Canon CDS1100D till now.
see link:

That's an interesting solution for astrophotography.
What exposure times did you use & how many?

cheers

They were all 5min subs @ ISO800.
The cooling was turned off as I was having frosting problems (my fault not the camera's) the sensor was running at +14C. So I was very surprised at the overall lack of noise.

Really?

Where was it frosting?

jjjnettie

Either on the sensor or the IR filter.
I'd left the camera on the back of the scope when I'd finished up one night, and it was quite wet with dew. I should have wiped it down and put it in a sealed bag with desiccant. It's all good now though. :) Lesson learned.

OK thanks Jeanette,
I think my QHY9 has a dew heater to stop that but
maybe the Canon doesn't?

jjjnettie
21-08-2013, 01:08 PM
No it doesn't. There is no control over the cooling either. The peltier is running full bore all the time as well.

babez, that's an outstanding result for such short integration time.

It's got a 3D feel about it and reminds me of a heart. :)

Wow! Fantastic capture Jeanette. The detail is amazing.

Mind if I show it at the next Star Gayzers meeting as an eg. of some of the results of Astrofest?
