Not sure how everyone manages there file transfers from laptop to desktop, I use to drag everything oner to a hard drive the load it on to the desk top. This takes ages.
I came up with what I thought was a rather ingenious (even if I say so myself lol) method of automating the whole process as well as backing up the data at the same time.
I have a drop box account and have the the app installed on the laptop and the desktop and I get my imaging software to deposit the images into my Dropbox sync folder and viola, they magically appear on my desktop ready for processing.
Anyone can do this as I think Dropbox give away a free 2 gig storage space for free, no strings attached.
It works really well.
Yep I've been using Dropbox for a few years now and it's so handy.
It's saved me a few times too, having recovered files.
I've got it on all my devices.
You can get up to 18GB free.

Yeah, I've had 100 gig for a couple of years now but never thought about using it to transfer my imaging data instantly to my desktop. I could have kicked myself for not thinking about it sooner lol.

Apart from the fact that you have to have internet access so this wouldn't work in dark sites such as Lostock :( You also chew up your internet data transfer allowance.
I much prefer a USB disk drive, then you are ready to process where ever you have that and these days they are not much bigger than a mobile phone.

I just connect them all to my LAN - either wired or wireless - and move the files to my NAS. 11TB of RAID5 sure beats 1.5TB on one lappie and 500GB on the other.

Dropbox will sync via your LAN between PCs on the same network. No Internet usage required....

Perhaps we are talking about different things, I thought you were referring to "Dropbox" the internet "cloud" storage service.

I was, and it will sync over LAN as well as over the net. Look in the preferences, it is enabled by default.

I will, thanks
Of course, if you remotely control our laptop from your desktop, the software (I use TeamViewer) gives a direct file transfer option. For that matter, if you have shared the directories, and the computers are on the same network, you can just use Windiws Explorer.
