I got my 1.8x Televue barlow today. Ordered it last Friday from AEC (http://www.astronomy-electronics-centre.com.au/).

Although this is a discontinued product, it is brand new, and looks immaculate. The coatings look excellent, just like on the best TV EPs. It's made in Japan unlike most things Televue these days (maybe the barlows still are). The barrel blackening is immaculate. And performance: we had some exceptional seeing in Melbourne tonight, with stunning steady images of Jupiter and its moons at 300x. The barlow is brilliant! Tried it with all my Pentaxes: the XF and the 2 XWs. All superb. I think I might have a new best barlow!

Good news is this is a clearance item at AEC (http://www.astronomy-electronics-centre.com.au/) and selling for $130. An absolute bargain. Get one if you need a barlow! ;)

Hi Steve,
A couple of days ago I was looking at this barlow 2nd hand on Astromart for $149!
Since then I've gone for a GSO 2" ED barlow - a 22mm Pano hanging onto a 1.25" barlow put me off!
Thanks for the heads up to this page - there are lots of things in their stocktake sale to go for...everyone should check it out.

Cheers all

Andrew,

If your in the market for a barlow this is a really great buy, it's a top quality product, bettered only by a TV powermate at 2.5 times the price. It's a quantum leap from those far East products at not much more money.

Steve are you saying this is better than 2" Japanese one? In what way?

Geoff, it's probably at least as good, I did not do any sort of a thorough comparison. But it's a 1.25", so it's not as big and heavy, and it will work in my f/4 Newt which has a 1.25" focuser. The other thing is that the 2" gives me around 2.3-2.4x with most 1.25" EPs (+ 2-to-1.25 adaptor). I will get more use out of a 1.8x.

Glamour shot for Andrew.

I was told that the website info is old. In case anyone is wondering, the 15mm Panoptics are all gone. Of these barlows there are a "one or two" left - but hopefully they've got a truckload of them .
