The software that came with my Canon 550D, EOS Digitial Solution v22.4, requires a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or better to install (why?).
My Aspire netboook, running XP, as a resolution of 1024 x 600.
Any suggestions on getting the software to work?
I am after the remote capture functionality, not worried about processing capability.
Is there some other free / cheap software that allows remote capture?
Thanks

Might be worth checking your resolution options, my Toshiba notebook will run at resolutions past the native settings allowing higher res by scrolling, yours may have similar options.

You can probably get around this by plugging in an external monitor via the VGA port and setting it to be the only or primary monitor - will bypass the check in the install program.
It may still be an issue though if some of the screens are designed for a higher resolution monitor than that when running... but should get it installed.

This worked with a couple of Asus netbooks I used to have.

Yep, temporarily changing your resolution does the trick for installing DPP/EOS Utility.
I had to do this on an ASUS eeePC that I used to use for field work.

Ext monitor trick might work but generally the graphics chip and memory have a max resolution in settings on these netbooks.
Frustrating on my netbook too with a guitar composition prog call Guitar Pro 6. It wants higher resolution also and will run but the settings and print dialogue screen are off the bottom of the monitor and can't be resized. So I cannot make settings changes because I cannot access the 'Save' and 'Cancel' buttons.
