Hi all, I began this sequence on the 9th June at 6:30pm and left the camera running taking 40 second exposures till 5:30am on the 10th June. Used a 14mm Samyang f2.8 lens and compiled the images in Lightroom 4. Taken near Port Lincoln, South Australia. Hope you like it.

That's excellent, Lester. Are you able to add some suitable music?

Nice!
Did you have a white balance set on the camera or was it on auto? just looks like there is a little bit of colour change throughout. Awesome though :D

Great work Lester! What framerate did it play back at?

Thanks for the comments. I am still to learn how to add music to these. Yes I had the WB on auto. The images were in two different folders as the camera clock clicked over from one day to the next, so I may have adjusted the developing sliders in Lightroom differently for the second. I had the frame rate at 15fps, as I think any faster and the short meteors would be completely lost in the faster movement.

All the best.

Awesome piece of work !!!

To add music/sound you may use YAMB [yamb.exe]
Google for it. It is a free application and I think it also allows to add subtitles - how about adding a time stamp?

Great work Lester  The WB colour changes are a little distracting though. You mentioned you used LR so am I right in assuming that these were RAW files? If you ever decide to re-edit it one day, I would love to see how it looks with all the WB's synced to one setting.

Thanks Ross and Greg for your comments. Yes Greg I should have another go at this in Lightroom.

Here is an improved version with the processing of the two folders of images done together to avoid any fluctuations. Also got this one running a bit slower at 12fps and IMO an improvement to pick up the fleeting meteors.

Hi Lester,
It is a very nice presentation, but, in my opinion, it’s to quiet.
From the top of the shelf I found a piece of music that is 1:20 long and using YAMB mixed with your file (I hope you don’t mind). Here is the result:

You say "exposures every 40sec" by which I take that's the interval between the start of each exposure. What was the actual exposure and ISO settings? Was the lens wide open?

I'd like to give it a try tonight, a starting point to experiment would be great.

Lovely presentation though, congratulations

Hi Ian, I got something else on that link, definitely not my timelapse.

Hi Roger, I used 40 second exposures with 1 second interval, 14mm lens at f2.8 and ISO 1600. All the best.

:hi:

If you still have problems, do you have another website that can be used for easy file upload/download?

Hi Ian, no I don't have a website. Plus our internet quota for the month has been reached and it is on Very Slow now for the next 10 days. Unfortunately I will have to wait.

Thanks for that Ian. I will have to learn how to do that now, as you said it does add to it.

Thanks also Fred. All the best.

Emm, first experiment with one hour of frames went ok but the frames need a bit of processing of levels to bring out the detail in the milky way before putting into a video. I'm using a program called VideoMach to put the video together, its can do basic filtering and adjustment such as brightness and contrast but not level processing. Anyone know of a batch processing software that can preprocess the frames. I don't use Photoshop.

Hi Roger, lightroom can do batch processing, where you pick one image out of the sequence. Adjust it and then do the rest the same with a few clicks.

Thanks, but not much change out of $200, I was hoping for something cheaper, unfortunately the trialware of LR that I downloaded expired before I could test it properly

I will have to explore if GIMP can be scripted to do it.

Thanks
Roger

Lightroom 4 is available at a lot of places now for $99. Just look around and I am sure you will find a good price.

Ok, thanks.

I have found a couple of interesting scripts for Gimp which I am experimenting with, I'll try these first.
