The triangular conjunction of Jupiter (top), Venus (left) and Mercury (right) photographed this evening from Mount Ainslie, Canberra.

The next time we are graced with this triangular spectacle will be in October, 2015. The tightest formation of planets won't happen until 2050, when five planets will be close together.

Cheers Derek, Leon and Laurie.

The colours were helped by the haze that was going around tonight.

I met a random on the mountain and he said he was out last night too and it wasn't as hazy. He said the colours were duller, too, last night.

Andrew, Steve, David, Bob, Mike, David,

Thanks, guys. :)

lol, Steve. He's still a random as I don't know him. :P

He was nice, though. Told me about seeing aurora australis in Antarctica. I had my CAS hoodie on (embroidered ANU logo on it) and he said he would come along to the next meeting and say hello. :)

As everyone else has said, got got some fantastic colour Humayun! Did you apply any saturation boost during processing, or is it all from the haze?

Any more from tonight?

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Steven,

I gave the image 1 tick of saturation in DPP. That was it. :)

The haze does wonderful things for saturating deep colours.

None from tonight. I was at work, and, I think there was lots of low-lying cloud on the horizon, too, so, it would have been a write-off even if I did make the trek up.

Thanks, mate.

In that case it must have been a beautiful sight visually as well!

Beautiful colours captured in this scene H, the blues blend seemlessly into the reds. Very soothing!

Many thanks, Carlos. :)

I do love my camera and its ability to capture such gorgeous tones.

Now, imagine how nice a 16-bit sensor would be...

Beautiful work as as per other comments, very smooth tones. I did not realized that the Mark II was 12 bit.

Thanks, John!

The 5D Mark II (and III, which this was shot with), and indeed all Canon cameras since the 40D have been 14-bit systems.

The entry level and consumer cameras are still 12-bit, though, I think.

Cheers!
