It has just arrived, has anyone got any idea the size of these eyepieces!! they are like holding a full can of softdrink (or beer) in your hand, talk about monstrous. I think they weigh in at just over a kilo as well. This particular one was made in Japan, so hopefully it should live up to expectation. Yeah and wouldnt you know it, we are clouded in and raining tonight.

whats $250.....anyway I like to buy things then sell them...lol

The 31mm Nagler is my next choice.....

What I eventualy want is 12 mm Nagler or Keep my Meade 14mm UW keep my 17mm nagler and last of all 31mm Nagler....I really only want 3 good quality eyepieces..I already have the 2" 4 x Powermate ordered so that arrives next week and this will be the end of my eyepiece collection...for along long long time.....I have budgeted on winning lotto in the next few weeks.....otherwise keep your eye's open for any Bank robbery's.....that will be me with baseball bat...dam...have to buy a baseball bat aswell......

I'm kind of thinking....I will ues my 17mm most of the time and only pull out the 14/12mm if the seeing is good...then use my 31mm Nagler for clusters and so on......

Yeah I considered big Bino but I wanted something hand held....thats why I ordered the Nikon's.......they should be here any day....too....omg I sound like a buying Machine....Blame EXFSO...he got me started buying overseas......what I have bought is nothing compared to what he has purchased......

Thanks Beran....I do think that you only really use 2 eyepieces for 90% of viewing.....the 31mm isn't set in concrete yet....

For perspective buyers......the Meade 14mm UW has just been reduced again to $179USD..........They emailed me and are giving me a credit......for the difference......not bad considering I didn't even ask for it......

isnt the 5000 series made in china rather than japan? I have heard the japanese optics are better.
of course i could be wrong about this :)

Japan is suppose to be better....... but knowone know's alot about the new 5000 series as yet.....most are saying the 14mm UW 5000 series won't be as good as the Japan made 14UW 4000 series....but time will tell...anyway I wanted a 2" 14mm eyepiece not 1 1/4 like the 5000 series........I feel alot better about spending hundreds of dollars on a 2" eyepiece then some tiny little 1 1/4....but thats just me....its a size thing.....lol

WOW am am getting more and more amazed at the size of these eyepieces. I had the pleasure of using a 14mm TV Radian on my scope and also another one which I cannot remember (I know it cost about $900) It was huge, made my scope fall on its end it was heavy. Though not hard to do with bearings on the alt axis. Amazing views, I was ready to trade my scope in until I saw through it with these and it wasn't even collimated properly. Made my eyepieces look like those cheapies you get with tasco refractors. Urk :(

Hi:D
My opinion is the older 4000 series 14mm UWA was and is and always will be one of the best eyepieces on the market:)

I have a 8.8mm and just love it. I don't have the 14mm as i have a 12 mm Nagler and they are to close in mag, for me to justify another purchase.

Most eyepieces by Meade or Tele Vue are made in Taiwan AOC.
Does not mean they are poorer optics than the older Japanese ones. The coatings in the new ones will be better.:D

Happy viewing. Once the rain and cloud go:P

Well having seen this EP today, it is the size of a Coke can. Very heavy and the optics looks great. Of course the proof is in the viewing, which I am sure will be great.

My 14mm UW just arrived......looks great and compared to my 17mm Nagler its feels no different in weight..well not much.....in the hand it feels about the same...yes it is a bit taller.....I am leaving it in the sealed bag for a reason......so dont ask.

For comparison

Starting from left to right:

Televue 4x Powermate, Meade 14mm UW Bolt Case, 17mm Nagler, 2" GSO 2x Barlow.

Nice EPs you got there striker. Powermate looks great too. You must do a review of your equipment. I am currently thinking of purchasing some naglers and would be interested in your perceptions.

Thanks Paul.....

What I ultimately want is 12, 17 and 31mm Nagler's thats all....and ofcourse the 4 & 2 x Powermate's....I think $3000 worth is enough for eyepieces.....lol

I Blame Davetuc47 for this......hehe

I like spending other peoples money:P

Wait till you see the 31 Tony:eyepop:

Now you have seen with big Focal Length scopes you don't need lots of eyepieces. Mind you a full collection of Naglers, Panoptics and Radians and Pentaxes would be nice:D

Happy viewing with you 14 UWA, super eyepiece.:cool2:
