Seems the next gen of CS for Mac will only be available as a monthly subscription. Link to article below. Given I'm still on CS4 I'm not too fussed but interesting to hear others opinion on this direction...

I think the whole industry will eventually shift to a pay per use model. It makes sense from a financial point of view for those big companies. First yearly subscriptions were introduced. Monthly usage fees are next. The problem is that competition is still very far behind though so I can't see people opting out immediately.

Pay per use is fine as long as it is pay per use. Most vendors like Adobe seem to have a rental agreement, you pay us each month to put the software on your device regardless of whether you use it or not.
If they have a model where I can buy 1 month and that's all then that's great, but I can tell you they will want your credit card up front, bill you each month and make it too hard for you to revoke it.

Don't like this at all if I am honest. Really hate the month/yearly subscriptions because for example I do not use Photoshop every day therefore it will be a waste of money for me. I am sure others are in the same boat as well.

Shooting their foot to spite their face, yep a huge step backwards by a company that has no idea how to sell affordable products.
Simple, i'll stay with cs6

Seems like a logical step for businesses (like my work) but seems crazy for users like many of the members of this forum who don't use it full-time and don't generate an income from it.
Hopefully this will provide an opportunity to get some competition to these tools, Photoshop is the best at what it does but there are always new and better ways of doing things. I see it like Shake/Nuke/Flame/etc. vs AfterFX, node based vs linear... where is the 'Nuke' of still image manipulation? or vector illustration? seems like a huge opportunity to redefine the way this kind of work is done.
I like GIMP too but it works in the same way, using the same concepts, as PS... time for something new and better.
And as ingrained in the design pipeline as CS is just look at Final Cut, by far the most widely used editor at the prosumer level for many years but it only took one stuffed version and now nobody uses it anymore, and I knew many FCP die hards, they all went to Premier or to more professional edit systems. (my work went to Premier and Smoke after almost 10 years using FCP)
Oh and this isn't just on Mac only of course, Windows versions are the same.
