Hey Guys,

just a quick question. Is anyone else receiving disturbing communications from Foxtel that kind of might be relevant if I had Foxtel? But I don't now and never have had the service.

A fortnight ago, I got some calls to my house phone from a number in Sydney. I pick up and there's no-one there.

I googled the number and there was a whole heap of stuff about it being a number used by Telstra to take Foxtel queries, and there was a whole load of peeps thinking what I'm thinking.

A week later I get a call on my mobile at some ungodly hour of the morning from the installer saying he's only 20 minutes away. Just as well he never turned up or he'd have gotten something he didn't expect at that hour of the morning.

And now, on my mobile, I just received an SMS from Foxtel saying how my Foxtel direct debit payment couldn't be processed this month due to insufficient funds in my account. Please visit FOXTEL.com.au/myaccount or call 131999 to pay ($180) - wtf !!

It doesn't bother me too much as it's easy to ignore. But I was just wondering if this is normal procedure for Fuxtel - I mean Foxtel?

I suppose I could give them a call and have a bit of a laugh :)

Cheers guys,

Nikolas

What's the number?

Hey Nikolas

Yeah it does kinda sound like a scam, I agree.

The number was 02 9475 2896.

And the number that came through on my mobile just now (131999) didn't look scammy though. Nor the url they supplied at foxtel.com.au/myaccount.

I suspect one of two things:

1. Your number has accidently been entered by the operator when someone rang to order an installation.

2. Someone is having a laugh at your expense by ordering Foxtel for you.

I've had Foxtel for years, and have never had any problems with them, and no extra marketing or the like from them.

Cheers,
Jason.

Cheers Jason,

you may well be right. I decided to give them the benefit of ONE phone calls worth of time to try and get it resolved.

The 131999 number does go thru to FT, but then you get old Mr Robot who only understands nice things like "sell me more" "upgrade my package" and such like. He comes a bit unstuck with things like "complaint about billing" and "WTF blah blah blah" etc.

So my muse is spent, and I won't try again. Maybe they'll return to uninstall my mystery setup if I continue not to pay for what I don't have - lol.

Just hope they dont report you as a "bad debtor" in the meantime.
Apparently, once in that machine, you never get out.

Hey Paul,

Ever consider that someone has pulled the old "deliver a dozen pizzas" to your house trick? Perhaps someone has punked you and given dodgy info but your real address / phone number?

Any enemies you know of?

Just a thought?

Cheers

Chris

best you ring telstra/foxtel and let them know of the error

Hi Chris,

that wouldn't be my first thought. I haven't got on the wrong side of anyone - recently. I don't think ;)

@Nik, well like I said, I tried that, but you have to get through the questions that the recorded voice asks first. And when you get to the bit where it asks ..."So that we can help you (read:p*ss you off) better, please enter the number that's associated with this service.

And then of course, I don't have a valid number to type in.

I'll let it progress a while ;)

I find the best way to get past the bots is not answer anything they say, just stay quiet and in the end you will get passed on to a human. Works with every bot answering service I have ever used.
