Clip in Filter for Light Pollution...

Hi all,

Just doing some resaearch into clip in Filters for DSLR cameras. I used to have a Hutech IDAS-P1 filter that screwed onto a 2" adapter. I no longer use this adapter and no longer have the filter so I thought, what about the clip in ones...

What I am wanting to know is there any difference using a clip in filter against one of these screw in ones? I am also looking at the Astronomic CLS Clip in filter from Bintel. How do these filters compare (Astronomic v's Hutech) etc...

It would be used on an unmodified 400D.

Hi Andrew, Sorry, I never saw this thread when you first posted.

I'm not sure the IDAS filters are available as a clip-in version?
They have a system called MFA, which is a screw-in-filter holder that is itself fitted to the EOS body with a small screw.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit that I have had an IDAS LPS-P2 filter with MFA mount for some time now but have not yet used it!

May be worth a look at the Baader Protective T-Ring. Will hold 2" mounted or unmounted filter.

It takes a little longer to swap a filter but is a cheaper option if you already have the desired filter in 2". Also gives much better range of filter types.
