Howdy folks. Been away from astrophotography for a few years and have changed laptops so lost all the old software.
I used to have DSLR Focus for my 450D but i've now got a 600D and need some focusing software. Any recommendations? Free is good but i'll buy if required.
I loved the focus assit in DSLR Focus
these days I just use a bahtinov mask

I haven't had any luck/time to get RoboFocus with FocusMax working for my FSQ/STL combination, so, in the meantime, I have been using a Bahtinov Mask and the Bat Grabber software. It's quick, easy and painless.

I use @focus2 within ccdsoft and TheSkyX
Both packages have. @focus2 functionality
Works great

Same here, @focus2.
I did try using FocusMAX, but it drove me nuts with its frequent getting lost and deciding to home the focuser (which takes forever and wakes the dead).

Is there any way of getting @focus2 to work under MaximDL or is it purely for CCDSoft/TheSkyX?

So far as I know @focus2 is just something the Bisques cooked up and is only in CCDSoft and TheSkyX. It was implemented years ago and probably hasn't kept pace with FocusMAX. The UI implementation for @focus2 within TheSkyX is better than the one in CCDSoft. Note that TheSkyX can control any ASCOM focuser.

I use a bahtinov mask to get close and then refine with the FWHM monitor that comes with CCDInspector from ccdware http://www.ccdware.com/products/. It reads out your FWHM in real time.

I use the built in focus routine in Sequence Generator. It's spot on and works with any ASCOM controlled focuser. Refocuses on filter change, defined drop in temperature and other parameters. Never had a problem with it.
