Hi guys,

I am having issues using USB extension cables with my planetary camera a Lumenera SkyNyx 2.0.

I get the attached errors when using USB cables and the camera does not work, but all is ok when I not using USB cables and the camera is connected straight to the USB ports through its short cable.

I have reloaded all the camera drivers and tried using different USB ports on the laptop but still the same messages!!

Have had this camera and the same cables for several years and no issues until now!!

What the hell???.....

Has anyone come across this before??

Clear skies to you.

John.

what lengths are your extension cables, I have heard that there can be issues over 5 metres.

Mine are 3 meters long.

Have had not issues for several years since I got the camera. Just wondering if it's a camera issue or something is up with the power supply of my laptop??

...mmm...just joined together some shorter newer cables and back in business. Weird!!

Maybe time to replace my old USB cables!

Saturn awaits....

I had some problems recently with USB cables. Admittedly they were cheap cables. I used some contact cleaner and the problem went away. I think it is corrosion that has formed during the humid months. I've ordered some Lindy cables that have gold plated connectors that will hopefully prevent the problem recurring.

John,

I'm using a 5 metre active USB cable powered from the laptop, via a USB hub, no issues with a DSLR or guide camera (Orion). Sounds like "broked" cable.

Hi John,

Are you using a powered USB hub?

I had the same problem as you until I put a powered hub in the loop.

Cheers,

Justin.

Active are the way to go when over 2m's really and a must for 5m+, in theory 5m's is the max limit but with cheaper made cables and with ohms law it could be anything far less then 5m's. Lindy cables are of very good quality though you can get cheaper ebay cables that are active and will do the same job. I've had a ton of cheaper cables go faulty so try a good quality cable.
