Hi guys,

I have no idea what I am doing wrong, but when I try to manually install/remove/update drivers, all except the 'Driver Details' buttons are ALWAYS greyed out.
Please see attached pic.
It is not only for this device, but for EVERY device.

Anyone know why this happens? IS this one of Win7's famous 'security enhancements'
Any idea's how I get around it?
Using Win 7 SP1 and logged in as Administrator.

Cheers.

Edit: Helps if I attach the pic ;)

This is a common problem and Win 7 experts can tell you how to actually log in as administrator.

However I am not a Win 7 expert so I do it by running a little utility called take ownership. This edits the registry and gives you an option on the menus to "take ownership". Running this on the folder where your access has been denied should allow access where you can then edit the permissions.

Cheers Barry, I found the problem eventually.

Screenshot 1 below shows a Properties dialog with a button labeled 'Change Settings' in the 'General' Tab
Screenshot 2 shows the exact same Properties dialog after clicking Change Settings, but with the button now removed, if I now click the 'Driver' tab.......
Screenshot 3 shows the buttons I need!

Microsoft are crazy.... I'm logged in as administrator but they insist I have to jump thru another hoop. Why can't they just make changes active for administrator by default? Or at the very least also put a 'Change Settings' button in the 'Driver' tab?

Great Simon

I knew there was something else you had to do to get the administrator priviledge. It looks like you found it.

I don't run Win 7 on a regular basis because I prefer XP so I have taken ownership of everything and edited the permissions.
