View Full Version here: : What is the best filter
Hi all
At the moment i use a Orion Broard Band filter for my wide fields on the DSLR.
all images have a blue effect through then, is there a better one for this type of imaging.
There basically is no colour ather than blue in all the shots.
Could some one please suggest what filters for what jobs,
thanks Leon

hi leon, ive been looking at filters myself also. different type of filters does different jobs. depends on what image you are imaging. you might want to check out this link:
http://www.alpineastro.com/filters/filters.htm
what images were you imaging btw?
Thanks Eric, for your response,
I mainly use the Orion B/Band filter with my camera for wide field stuff,
I have a 2" one, and the thread is only one millimiter shy of the 49mm thread of the camera lens, which is an Suiko F:1.4.
With a 49mm to 49mm stepping ring i have attached the B/band filter to the stepping ring, which screws nicely to the lens.
Now that was a long explanation, wasn't it, (sorry about that)
Eric, it is as i've said, just for wide field imaging.
P.S. The problem mainly exists with the digital imaging though, film is fine.

Hi Leon,
I've doing some research on filters..you may want to have a peek at www.lumicon.com/filterspec_prnt.htm
They have a list of objects with the filter types for viewing and photography.
They reccomend for,-
Diffuse Nebulae, OIII (light polluted sky), Deep sky, UHC (dark sky) for viewing
and use a Deep Sky filter for photography.
I hope the info helps!

Hi Leon,
Sorry I can't really help you with DSLR or film as I use a meade DSI for
imaging. Maybe some other guys around here can help you on that one.
btw, i've ordered a Baader UHC-S filter. I'll let you know how it goes with it.

The best filter for stopping light pollution is the Hutech see here. They let far more light through for better colour balance yet suppress unwanted light polllution.
