Yoh Icer's!
As Apple have now closed down the mobile me web site provider I am looking for another hoster to put my web site on. Crazy domains etc seems expensive for a small website.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Your internet provider might have such a service for a small-ish fee?

Smartyhost are very inexpensive, service is good as well, from memory basic hosting and email is about $70 per year, although you may consider that expensive.

If you're a bit savvy and have the bandwidth you can set up a dymanic dns hostname and host your own at home using something like Xerver which is an open source web/FTP server. You'll need some experience with routers to get the appropriate ports set up through your router.

If you have a smallish site try "hostingbay". I find them quite good.
Hosting on a Linux server 1 gig and unlimited emails is under $4.00/month.

Theres pro's and cons, i use to use webcity but they come at a price. There service is great, full cpanel ect and i think now they have ulim mysql db's thankgod as 1 is not enough. They don't overload there servers and there down/up stream is dam fast. These guys are what i consider 1 of the best in australia, you get what you pay for. Though if you arnt going to make the best of the features look else were, as I said there a bit pricey against others due to what they give.

Im with crazy domains just redid my domain and it was 18 bucks for 2 years and the web hosting was 54 bucks for a year What i like about them is their Fantastico Apps to install all your web apps easy as one click and its done.
You can see my small word press site here (http://lordofthesmiths.id.au/wordpress/)
and my small galley site here (http://lordofthesmiths.id.au/PGallery/index.php/) to see what you get in the price. A1 service I've had with them as well.

A friend of mine does websites for people so I asked him:
"Depends what they want to do.
inmotion is good but doesn't allow chat
http://www.inmotionhosting.com/ "

For his customers that need chat?
"I'm using the silver package of this now
https://www.bhost.net/home
but an unmanaged vps"

Unmanaged?
"Yeah you choose your linux distro and they leave you to it.
Managed vps is pricey."

So I would say inmotion would probably be the better option :)

I was using freehostia for my Motorsports photos web site, not too bad at the time but I don't know if they are still around. ( Can't chk from work ). And they were free without too much ad stuff included.

I used VentraIP for my hosting. No real problems so far.
Cost me $70/yr, with servers in Melb.

Graham,
Try Webs.com (http://members.webs.com/s/webs/) it is free but does have a paid service worth a look

I've got a couple of customers using google domains which is cheap and has few options.
I've not looked into it myself at all but it might suit.
