I need a new 1TB external HDD for my Flea3 Planetary CCD but the cheap old Freecom HD I had gave poor write speeds and I only got 30fps at 16 bit where as others say they get 50+fps with same computer specs. My laptop is Inspiron 1525 - 2GHz USB2 (also have a PCI 34/54 slot) so I should be getting 50+fps like others do.

Not very computer literate but USB3 HD will not work on USB2 laptop at USB3 speeds so don't know if worth buying. SATA II supposed to give better write speeds. Don't know if firewire can be used with HDD?

Don't know what any of you would recommend would be best for my Flea3 in getting best frame rates with my current Laptop?

Thanks, John.

I don't know it you can get one for your lappie, but I have a SATA caddy to replace the DVD in my Thinkpad with a 500GB HDD in it. It's about as fast as the boot HDD in the box.

There's no reason you couldn't use a firewire HDD. You would need to check on the wiring (there are at least 2 different plugs) and whether you need external power.
