I wanted an eyepiece that I can carry easily with a scope in the car for Ha when out, and the odd wildlife, bird watching so I chose the Baader Hyperion Universal Zoom Mark IV, 8-24mm eyepiece, mainly because it is well thought of by bird watchers.

I chose it because I have a number of Baader 2" click lock diagonals and they are well made.

However all my other eyepieces are 2" and even the odd Vixen LVW8mm is wide angle.

is it me or is the field of view (I am NO expert) I see really narrow, it is taking a LOT of getting used to, are all zooms the same

Thank you

Yes, the fov is narrow compared to a modern telescope eyepiece. something like 55 degrees and less depending on zoom. Not a problem for solar and planetary use, but not very immersive for deep sky use. I tend to find all binoculars annoying for the same reason!

The FOV of the Baader Mk IV at various settings has been measured as:

24mm = 45°
20mm = 50°
16mm = 54°
12mm = 60°
8mm = 70°

Unfortunately all zooms are very narrow at the longer focal lengths.
