Temporary cover

Hi all,
I’m in the process of installing a custom made pier in my backyard with the objective of building a ROR around it later. But that can’t happen for a while. So I’m after suggestions on how to weatherproof the pier and mount when it’s not in use. It’s a HEQ5 Pro with an ED80 on it, but I can remove the OTA when not in use. At present it is very tall, the steel pipe alone is 1.5 metres tall. I figured too tall is better than too short, as I can build the ins floor height to suit when the time comes.

P.S. Goulburn can be exceedingly windy!

I’d take the scope off, wrap the HEQ5 in a bath towel and then cover the whole thing in a thick garbage bag and tie it off at the bottom. You may need to periodically remove the garbage bag to allow any moisture to escape and dry out the towel but it’ll keep it protected from the elements.

I use an umbrella cover for my pier only, they're available in different sizes with a side zipper as well.
You might have to remove the counterbalance shaft though for this to fit over.
As Colin suggested use a towel and a plastic bag over the mount/pier top and zip tie first. I do this also just with the pier.

I forgot to mention, ants and huntsmen spiders love it in there because it's nice and dry/warm so a bit of surface spray at the base of the pier to keep the critters away is a good idea also ;)

Bunnings has some good BBQ covers, different sizes and shapes. Not too expensive either.

Pier all installed, and I picked up an umbrella cover at Bunnings to weatherproof it when not in use.
