Be aware that the latest Windows 10 updates can cause grief to some ASCOM drivers.

I "lost" access to my dome and scope last night which was frustrating as it was a clear night and I could not get any imaging done.

I still haven't found a fix to the problem yet. I threw in the towel last night in disgust. :)

My commiserations, Chris. I'm still running my capture software on an old Win 7 laptop

Actually I think it might be the push I need to go to INDI again. I have one component that's not supported, but I can get a setup going that doesn't use it. And if it all works well, I'll sell the offending item and upgrade to something that works with INDI.

I'm pretty tired of fighting Windows.

There is some info on the ACP forums about a workaround. I’m not sure if it is publicly available unfortunately.

I’m sure someone will release it in due course. I’ve put a hold on Windows 10 updates for 35days to see what happens as the dust settles. Apparently you can uninstall the update and pause them, but only for 35days.

I read about this earlier today, so I did a check on my gear in the obs and seem to have no problems. Here is a link to a fix for those that have trouble with the windows update. I cant confirm if this works though.

This seems to have temporarily solved the issue for me. Lost 4 nights in frustration 'though.

You can set your network connection as metered. Then Win10 won't try to automatically install updates over that network connection.

Another reason to never connect my imaging laptop to the internet.

Could you copy the details here? I don't use facebook and it wants a log in to look at that page.

Ah that fix, thanks - yeah I found it via another path but it hasn't worked for me. Might need to change more things.

FYI, the Astro geek link is a copy of what is on the ACP forums

Has anyone heard of a fix for this yet?

The above/below fixed POTH Observatory communication, but not all mount issues.
I have my EQ6 running OK but EQ8 refuses to talk.:(

Both ASCOM and EQMOD seem to have gone quiet on the issue and seem to be sitting on their hands waiting for Windows to act.

I've set my Astro PC to a metered connection on all wifi connections that it has available in order to disable auto downloading of updates. Will leave it there and not download latest W10 update until the issues noted are resolved.
So far ASCOM & EQ8 as of Saturday still work fine.

That's a good idea.

I'm well underway to using Linux instead. A few minor issues to sort out and Windows will be history.

All back up and running on windows 10 (still an issue getting QHY5 to play nice). I have to use another guide camera. Used proposed fixes mentioned above.

Happy days.:)

There’s a similar message on the ASCOM homepage. Maybe give it a few days for the dust to settle.
