A Gold Coast observatory

I thought I'd share some photos of my suburban backyard observatory. It's home built and a little different from most observatories. Space constraints and aesthetics meant a roll-off wasn't an option. Also, I find domes a little claustrophobic. I like to be able to view the entire sky from inside the observatory.

Each half of the roof is controlled by an electric winch for opening an closing. This works well but they can be a little noisy in the middle of the night.

Other than that, the observatory has been a great success and I'm very happy with it.

Actually, you nearly could. :-) It can get a bit warn in the summer but it's quite cosy the rets of the year.
