As some of you may have spotted from the Astrophotography postings I have just upgraded my DSLR to a SONY A77-SLT. I had my first trials last night with astro and RAW files from it.
Unfortunately DSS does not sem to like them Returns a message
DSS has encountered a problem etc etc
Uninstalled and reinstalled no help. Tried it again on RAW files from my KM 7D ( pre SONY) and it works, no problem.
So either SONY has changed the RAW file format somehow that makes it incompatible with DSS or the size of the files may be an issue. The new RAW files are 27.3 megs as opposed to the old files at about 6 megs.
Anyone got any suggestions or alternatives ?

More info, Just tried to run it on a Win 7 SP1 with same result. Previous install is on XP SP3. Temporarily I may move to using the 24mp Extra Fine jpeg option on the camera. The resolution and low noise is quite outstanding.

Don't know if it's any help to you, but DSS 3.2 wouldn't stack RAWs from my canon. Uploaded ver. 3.3.3 beta 47 and all works fine, thanks Phil!
Cheers Andy.:)

Just check to see if you have X2 Drizzle enabled in your DSS settings, if it has a tick in the box get rid of it.
That worked for me anyway but if you had no problem before then I'm not sure.

since I use the DSS beta, it takes my Sony NEX-RAW, too.

X2 Drizzle didn't fix it. I'll download the latest version see how that goes.

Brent, you could use Sony's Image Data Converter to convert the RAWs to 16 bit TIFF if DSS can deal with those.

Yep, I've found that my best results with my DSLR are if I convert them to 16-bit TIFFs first. I usually set all the processing options (sharpening, contrast, etc) to the minimum and do the tweaking after stacking.

Thanks for that guys, I'll look into it. Got the CD with the camera.

Geez, going to have to be selective with that converter, it makes my 24 meg RAW into 68 Meg TIFs. :eyepop: But seems to work on even a reasonably specced PC (at work).

Now to sort out my mount , seems to have developed a bit of dec drive jitter and I need more photons, lots more.
