20mm t5 Nagler

Hi Folks,

Being an XW type of bloke, I'm now ready to move to the darkside
with my first purchase of a premium mid to low-ish power ep. So
does anyone know where the best deals on a 20mm t5 Nagler can
be had? or is it just Bintel that has the market sown up. I like to
buy local to help keep the local market churnning so I wont be going
OS for it. Maybe someone has one in pristine condition they have been
thinking of moving, PM me

regards,CS

Rob

I beleive that Bintel is the sole distributor for Televue products in Aus.

Yes they can be had from OS, but the dealer agreements say that this is not allowed to happen.
I purchased a panoptic new from OS and posted about it here, which quite upset the dealer, so if you do manage to get one in this way, please keep quiet about it so you dont ruin it for others

By the way ... is that you Rob (Xrekcor)?

Welcome back!

Matt,

Tis me

Well if I cant pick up one in pristine condition second hand, I'll be ordering
a new one through the week.

Starkler, like I said above, I dont want to go overseas so I wont be
Personally I prefer to support the local industry and have a quick result
from any warranty issues, if any. Even if it does cost me a few more dollars.
Unless I buy straight from the manufacturer I buy local as a rule so
your secret overseas trade is safe with me. basically this post is to alert
folks who may have one and are thinking of parting with it, then PM me.
Yes I'm being sneaky as I cant use the "Buy, Sell, Trade" forum

Valid points Rob and yes I did have a warranty issue with the particular eyepiece I bought, with the barrel filter thread being defective, and taking some time to get resolved

I have seen a few complaints posted on this, so with TV eyepieces it pays to check the threads.

Thanks Mike, maybe you could move this thread over there.

Geoff, the pro's and con's of out-sourcing their work means
the QC probably isn't what it used to be. Besides I will still
be able to say all my premium ep's are made in Asia. And if
you really look at it do any American companies _actually_
make premium ep's anymore?

Good to have you back on board Rob. But beware the dark side (and its green stripes)! You probably need a lot of patience and/or luck to get one second hand at a good price.

Whatever happened to Andrews getting Televue EPs at discount prices?

There seems to be global price fixing w.r.t. televue products: every dealer has the same price. And prices are way too high , especially considering they are made in Taiwan.

What's wrong with that? I think the 26 & 20 mm Naglers are super Ep's and I have used both.

Please explain your comment?

I did not say there was anything "wrong" with it. I just think the prices of Televue EPs are outrageous, and I would like to see Televue pass on some of the savings of using Taiwanese manufacture onto the customer; e.g., a T6 should be significantly less expensive than an XW.

TV Ep's have always been high priced. Even when they came from Japan. Some still do come from Japan.
You payed many hundred dollars for these Ep's in the 80's and wages were a lot less than today wages.

I don't see why they have to be cheap because they come from Taiwn. What because of the cheaper labour!

I presume that's why TV moved production there. If they are cheaper to make they should be a at least a little cheaper to buy (or at least it would be nice if they were ).

Hi Darren,

Thanks Mate, not much just work, looking at clouds, sleep... but we're
hoping for a lil clear weather _next week_ oh one who controls such
things. But as I'm buying my first lil Nagler (so folks dont think I hate TV's).
Which should arrive late next week, me hopes!!. The weather will
prolly do the usual.

Apart from that getting ready to be a dad again. We got a another
lil rev-head on the way amazing what xmas cheer and a couple
of beers can do eh

How about yourself, hows the new dob! must be a treat to have the
extra aperture. I'm still using the 8". Since I have dark skies at the
doorstep it still pulling it's weight in enjoyment, but aperture is starting
to call me. I'd love to buy one of these rumoured 16" GSO dob's, What
ever happen about those... anyone know?

regards,CS

Rob

Well I guess I should say I'm a Nagler owner now. Hope that cheque
arrived ok David.

Starkler,

It's is interesting to note that I emailed the supplier here in Australia
on the 6/05/06 with the intention of placing an order. If I couldn't
get something second hand I was going for the 22mm t4 because
the ER is similar to my XW's. I waited prolly 3-4 days before I decided
to try online. It's now near 2 weeks and I have not recieved a reply
maybe this is why some folks head overseas, That was a $750.00
sale they lost, perhaps they didn't need my money. So I think I will
be buying my astronomiks filters direct from Gerd Neumann. I remember
when I was originally tossing up between XW's and Naglers, finding myself
unable to choose I emailed the suppliers of each. I had got and already started
using the 10mm XW by the time the Nagler supplier bothered to reply. I own
three XW's now and one Nagler. Could of been 4 Nagler from that supplier
$2000.00+ in sale if they had of bothered replying.

regards,CS

Rob

PS: Now only if I can get some clear weather this weekend.

Rob, I've had similar experiences with email. The place you're talking about responded to one out of three of my emails. Then I tried calling but I got that cranky woman, so that call wasn't very useful.

Lee andrews always manages to respond to emails though you need to ask only one question per email. I get the impression he has a thousand emails to respond to, gives each one a quick read and shoots out a reply.

It's a shame about the "Nagler dealer" neglecting their emails especially if you don't live near one.

Spot on about Lee, but once you know the rules it's something you can work with.

I found the best people to deal with via email are AOE. Most helpful and patient responses to all queries. But that's probably because they are a mail order only business and don't have an actual shop.
